Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Roper Washer Topload (model RAX4232KQ0) and recently replaced the lid switch because it was broke. That fixed my problem but created another one though. I put the machine back together and now it won't fill with water. I hear the timer working but nothing happens. I noticed that after I connected the two molex type connectors (one to the timer and one to the lid switch), there was one connector still unmated. The wires from that connector are pink, purple and tan. They are bundled up with the wires that are coming from the timer. Being a novice, I didn't think to look where that connector might have been connected too (if it was even connected to something), but I still don't see it's mate anywhere. Ground is connected also. Please help, I'm at my wits end, thank you.

    Hey Tom,

I greatly appreciate the information. My washer however doesn't have any electrical wiring that goes to the level switch. The only thing that connected to the switch is a 1/4" clear plastic tubing that runs to the tank. The water filled up fine before I replaced the lid switch, now I'm stuck. And that connector that doesn't have a mate is puzzling me also; I still can't find where that things connects.

Roper washer agitator won't spin after kids loaded

Hi,
It sounds like a someone has broke the lid switch to the washer. Below I have attached a picture, Item number 9 would be the part you seek. P# 3949247 Under the control panel you will find a harness that contains 3 wires coming out of the cabinet housing. The colors should be tan, white and green. If you jump the white and tan you unit should run and think the lid switch is working. Safety way is to unplug the unit to by-pass the switch and plug it back in and select spin only. This is only to test, you need a lid switch for safety. You should replace it ASAP if this test works for you.

Lid switch not working

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description it sounds like you`ll need to replace it, but first...

Here`s how you can check it pretty easily...

( this is based on the most common Whirlpool, Estate, Kitchen-Aid, Roper, Kenmore, Inglis topload washer, not neccessarily applicable to ALL...especially those built in the past 1-2yrs. the model number would distinguish if it applies to your particular model )

Lift the lid, if you observe the underside of the lid there will be a plastic "strike" or "actuator" that goes into a hole when the lid is closed.

Check the hole where the actuator goes into the cabinet and insure you can see a gray oval shaped piece. If so take a small screw-driver, pen/pencil or something small enough to fit thru the small hole and try activating the switch by pushing it down ( machine must be in the agitate or spin cycle ). If you don't see it, the switch has likely broken loose and needs to be replaced.

If it start's to function than the switch is not being contacted properly by the actuator on the lid and likely is due to the switch being worn...unless the actuator on the lid is broke, if so there`s the problem.

Make sure the switch is being held in place via the two screws along the side, if they are loose tighten them, if it is broken, it will need to be replaced.

Here`s a helpful link for changing it out,

The lid switch will look like this...

The part you are talking about is called the lid switch. The following link explains step-by-step how to replace one:

Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool and uses Whirlpool parts, so these instructions do apply. The part number is 3949247 and can be found at appliancepartspros.com for about $23.

How do I replace the lid switch on my waher it's a Roper

buy a replacement switch and the top lifts off from the front.  It could be the switch has only come loose or the probe on the lid has broken off.
