If you have manuals, please post the make and model of your motherboard from the manual.

If you do not have a motherboard manual:

Open your computer - be sure to unplug it.

Don't touch anything, read the make and model number off the big board everything is connected to and post it, it you are not sure, post everything you can read.

With this info I can point you to the correct drivers.

    Sorry,
    Go to this page here:
    http://majorgeeks.com/WinAudit_d4967.htm...

Under "Downloads" select the Texas Us site and run the program. It doesn't need to be installed. It will create an exhaustive report on your system and you can go through the data to discover the motherboard make and model version. Post that back to us and we can then point you to the download file to enable the HD Audio which is what you need.

    Regards,
    Worldvet

You need to get inside the computer then read teh serial number printed on motherboard and other boards.

Using the on board printed number you can find out motherbard specifications and locate a download with the right drivers for your computer.

You are missing your chipset drivers that are normally on your cds that come with the computer. Windows update will not provide these. If you are retrograding from Vista to XP and XP is not supported by the manufacturer of your computer then you might try the motherboard manufacturer or chipset manufacturer for generic drivers. Using Windows to search for this set of drivers is a waste of time. AMD will probably suggest ATI for drivers and that too will probably be futile. You never mentioned the brand/model of your computer and I suspect that you do not have the cd/dvd that comes with the purchase of a new computer or motherboard so all can say is to try to find someone who has the drivers for your computer and operating system. Get urself some anti virus and a net connection and do windows updates (make sure u got SP3 at the end of it) then use device manager to automatically get the drivers online. SM Bus will be the most unlikely driver to find...

SM Bus Controller in Computer Management -> Devices shows a yellow "!".. "The Drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)

You will need to get the drivers. These are motherboard drivers. If this is an OEM computer such as a Dell, you can get the drivers from their site. If you built the computer yourself, the motherboard manufacturer's website should have a whole section of files you can download for that model.

Missing drivers

By the sounds of it, i'm guessing you have a premade computer and have reinstalled windows. It can be a pain to find the drivers, even if you know what you are looking for. First try the manufacturer website, search for the specific model number and download all/any drivers available for that model, install them all, unless of course there are multiple ones for each item, for those, you would need to install one at a time until you hit the sweet spot. Any that you cannot find or that do not work, take the name from the device manager (High Definition Audio Bus) and the model number and search google, i had a similar experience with an Acer laptop, one was particularly hard to find, the sound driver, everytime i tried to load it, it would crash the system. I never would have gotten it to work, but just happened across someone who had the same problem and had applied a windows hotfix to get it to work.
