Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I have a canon mp830 all in one. It is extremely slow scanning ( mpnscan.exe) and will take upwards of a half-hour to scan a document. It wasn't always this way. Any ideas?

How did you reduce the file size?

  • relampico332 Jan 16, 2009

you fire up the application then click scan with scanner driver. This will bring up a menu page whereby you can change the sizes. Somehow my data size was showing 25.59 MB. I changed doctype to platen, paper size to letter, color mode to grayscale, outputsize to 1024X768. This should give a data size of 768 KB and the thing will really fly..............once. Next time you use it the step after scanning (transfer) is slow but it scans over 50% of the image right away. I'm trying to work this out with Canon. I think I have either a corrupted executable ( although I downloaded the latest driver from Canon and reloaded it several times), or an address conflict . I guess we'll have to wait until some expert stumbles accross this to get it solved.

Thanks for the quick response. The solution was to reduce the file size from 25+ MB to 1 MB.

I have a MP830 and when I try to scan in a doc. to my mac, it takes forever. I get this message "Processing calibration data from a scanner. Do not open the document cover."

The greater the detail setting the scanner is set to scan at, the greater will be the time taken to complete the scan process.

Lowering the detail settings may reduce the time taken to scan a document.
These settings may be found in the software that came with your printer.

I have a canon mp830. When scanning to pc, the MS Publisher app opens (or is suggested to open) which is fine, but no image comes across. It does not appear that the scanner is working although it copier...

When the Publisher application opens sometimes you have to manually scan the image from the software. When you press scan from the printer this only prompts the Pc to chose a program to open the image with. Allow the publisher app to fully open and look for an icon that says scan now or something similar then you should be able to see the document in the publisher software.

How to scan picture to upload on computer

First, ensure you are connecting the scanner to your computer. I'm assuming USB connection, and that you're using an operating system supported by this device.

Next, install the drivers and software for this device. Those should have come with an installation disc, but if you don't have that disc, you can get them from the PIXMA MP830 support site, here:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=123&modelid=12804

To scan a single document, place the document:
1. Place the document face down on the platen glass.
2. Open the MP Navigator 2.2 software.
3. Click Scan Photo/Document.
4. Click Document Type drop-down arrow and select the type of document to be scanned. Chose from the following types.
  • Color Document(Simplex): Select this to scan one side of color documents.
  • Color Document(Duplex): Select this to scan both sides of color documents.
  • B/W Document(Simplex): Select this to scan one side of monochrome documents.
  • B/W Document(Duplex): Select this to scan both sides of monochrome documents.
  • Text(Simplex): Select this to scan one side of text documents.
  • Text(Duplex): Select this to scan both sides of text documents.
5. Click 'Specify' and set the preferences as required. Click here for detailed information

6. After making the setting changes, click 'Scan'

7. Click 'Save to PC' or 'Save as PDF file'. Save to PC is displayed when an image is captured with Scan Photo/Document or Batch Scanning

The directions for Batch Scanning, or using the ADF to scan, are shown below.
  1. Place the document(s) in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).
    1. To scan using the ADF, remove any documents from the platen glass.
    2. Open the document tray.

    1. Alternatively, on the Windows taskbar, click 'Start', point to '(All) Programs', 'Canon', then 'MP Navigator 2.2'.
    2. Then click 'MP Navigator 2.2'. MP Navigator opens.

  3. Click 'Batch Scanning'.

Canon MP830 not scanning

It won't scan unless you have a program like picasso running on your computer to accept the scan. On the Canon you choose where you want the scanned image to go and if you choose the computer you need a program running to store or adjust the scanned image.

Can't scan from Pixma MP830

I have the same printer...there is a program in Canon Utilities called MP Navigator 2.2 (should have downloaded from the software). Open it from Start, All Programs, Canon Utilities, MP Navigator. (if you right click, you can create a shortcut on your Desktop which is convenient) Don't know how savvy you are, but I was able to figure it out and discovered that you can even scan documents, save them as a PDF file and send them through email.
