I am having a problem with my computer. I think it is a virus.

Sounds like a virus. If you have antivirus software installed, try booting to safe mode by pressing F8 repeatedly at startup. Choose the safemode option and see if you can run a virus scan. If not, click start and type msconfig into search field. From here you can check startup programs to see if there is anything unusual like numbers or letters which don't mean anything, but don't disable anything if your not sure. Most viruses can be removed but in some cases the removal can corrupt the O/S so I would back up my documents folder and any other folder that you work from first. Unfortunately, it may require a fresh install to completely get rid of the virus. May be worth speaking to your local PC repair shop.

My Dell Inspiron 6400 (purchased Nov. 2006) has become psychotic. This virus lets me open one file or program but then if I want to open up another file or anything, I have to restart the computer. So...

Turn off the computer, and make sure its unhooked from the internet.
On another computer, download the free Avast antivirus (, and put it on a flash drive, or CD.
Next start your computer in SafeMode. (If you don't see an option press F8 when your computer starts to boot, and select SafeMode from the boot options.)
After your computer has booted in SafeMode, put in the CD or flash drive and install the antivirus. After it installs do a full system scan. (If it ask to restart your computer let it, but make sure you boot in safe mode.)
This should get rid of the viruses on the system, and it will prevent future viruses.
Hope that helps,

You've got yourself a rogue anti-virus that is a form of computer malware that deceives or misleads users into paying for the fake or simulated removal of malware and won't let you do anything on the computer. Follow the instructions on this link to get rid of it.

When i turn on the net book it asks to allow a program from the hard drive this turns out to be Antivirus 8, we already have an antivirus software. This will not allow us to do anything on the computer...

See if you can start up in safe mode poss F8 on startup and if you can get in go to control panel add remove programmess then look for the antivirus and uninstall it and if it works and the computer is running ok again ( with some luck ) i would then go and set a restore point of your own and call it something that you will remember maybe all good or after removing antivirus

then if you have this prob again you can go to system restore and take it back to there

My friend had a very similar problem only a few weeks ago and the only way that we could get rid of the darn thing was to pretend that we were gonna buy the darn thing so that it would kindly allow us to do anything on the computer then when it opened the webpage i managed to navagate to the control panel and remove it

one has to be very very carefull when downloading software or anything from the internet
we must always take each step at a time reading the things that they are offering and most cases we need to take the ticks out of such things that we dont want

good luck with it i had a big fight to get rid

Several Viruses found in my computer. need help if possible.

My suggestion is,better to use a good Antiviruse solution
Kaspersky is a good one

Since it has the ability to disinfect certain files and the method of scanning also good and also consumes only less ram in the latest versions as compared to other antiviruses solutions

I NEED HELP!!!!!! I just recently noticed that a virus was using Mozzela firefox to get into my computer. My antivirus detected it but when "Microsoft Essentials" said status not found I was surprised....

You should be able to do it from windows Safe Mode without the virus being able to do anything. You could also go to the directory via explore and just delete the whole folder. C:\program files mozilla Then run virus scan to remove any debris and reinstall Mozilla.

Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

Toshiba Laptop - Antivirus 2009

This is known as a non intrusive advertisement trojan, a virus that antivirus companies are now using. These viruses will not do any damage to your machine, but they are very annoying. They are almost impossible to get rid, and here's why. When the virus is activated it places several copies of itself throughout the system. These copies lie dormant, which makes them hard to find, in areas or files that are considered safe by your antivirus, and aren't checked on a regular basis. Then when you get rid of the active virus, one or two more, but not all, will open leaving several more behind. After a few months the number is exponential. There are two ways of making the pop ups stop, but only one to be completely rid of it. 1- buy the product, pay on a monthly basis, and spend entirely too much money for what you're getting, and then have them come back if you cancel or miss a payment. 2- the only sure fire way to get rid of them is to wipe the hard drive, reformat, and install a new operating system. If you do this you will be rid of it, but you cannot back up anything. The virus hides in everything from pictures, music, video, screen savers, to registry files. Anything could be infected and bring the virus into the new system. I realize that this isn't what you want to hear, I've tried everything here at my shop for customers with this problem, and unfortunately, this is the only sure solution.
