When booting it comes up with a white screen saying the dell computer system is protected by a password. shows the numbers #CRM60L1-1F5A. i cannot get into bios setting or system settings just stuck at this screen. it was accidentally set by myself when i was messing with the settings and i have no clue what i typed in.please help!
So you have a locked BIOS password.. this can be quite difficult to get past. There is one way which i have tried which is a hardware hack. It worked for me multiple times but i will say do at your own risk. It wont effect the hard drive at all.
Turn the laptop over and find the bit that you can open where the RAM upgrade goes into. Usually has a little chip (technology chip) as a symbol. Open that bit up and look for some text on the motherboard called CMOS its a circuit chip thats on the other side so you would just see little bits of solder going around in a square. its small too.
Once you have located it get a flat head screwdriver (must be flathead) and put the flat head screw driver on the CMOS chip bit so that you short circuit the CMOS chip it must touch a few of the solder bits on the motherboard to shortcircuit but only the CMOS chip. when you have the screw driver on the right bit turn the laptop on with the screwdriver still shortcircuiting the CMOS chip. When the computer starts it will say something along the lines of CMOS error or CMOS cannot load and it will reset the BIOS password.
Good luck
SOURCE: the administrative password is different in the bios settings
You can reset the password easily by removing the battery which will clear the CMOS. If you aren't comfortable doing this, perhaps you can find someone who will do it for you. It's not hard to do, and you won't hurt anything as long as you unplug the computer and discharge any static from your body. (Just touch something metal - like the rails on your desk or something else.)

The d820 does not have an ee'prom chip on the board so removing any battery will not work you must use either an eeprom reader and decrypt the eeprom dump, or a master password generator.there are alsomany online companies thay will charge you a few bucks to get your master password
