Question about Toshiba 42HL196 42 in. LCD HDTV

Faint black lines running vertically

I have a 42 " Toshiba 42HL196 TV that is 2 years old. I have started to get a faint dark line in the middle of the TV and another near the right side. It is visible on all inputs and cannot be fixed by adjusting picture settings or unplugging etc.Is there an easy fix for this problem as my TV is now off warranty and I do not want to dump a bunch of money into it. Is this a common problem?
any thoughts / advice would be greatly appreciated.

Vertical line in center of screen started 2 weeks ago. Tried unplugging it and the line was fainter but still there. Researching the internet and this seems to be a common problem with no solution yet. Looks like Toshiba and some stores are just ignoring the problem.

I have somewhat the same problem but not down the center on either side of screen where the border is for non wide screen I can fainltly see them when i switch to wide screen really bad if the picture is a bright picture

Same here, it appears to be getting worse down both sides of the screen various widths. Almost looks like water stains....but absolutely not possible.

I have same problem. Sometimes it center line and the right side line are more visible , depending on what color is on the screen. The lines are very noticeable when watching golf. I called the service center that Toshiba recommeneded and they said the entire panel would need to be replaced so if it wasn't under extended warranty, just live with it.

I had those too, and I sort of still have them. I found the best way to clear them up is to set your cable box to "stretch", so that it stretches non wide-screen (analog) broadcasts to the full length. Those lines show up at the transition from the picture to the black on 4:3 shows. The lines for me eventually became so faint they were barely visible.

Your correct, LCD's don't burn. This sounds like a defective main control module. I would take it in as soon as possible to have it looked at.

My understanding is that you have 2 laptops with the same problem, if that is the case, you need to replace the lcd. When you have lines on lcd's, that is a sign of a bad lcd.

Faint Black Line down the middle of TV

Sounds like it could be pixel problems or board problems, this depend on the location. Most are mostly to the left or right, or going across the set to the upper or more to the lower side. For more info visit
