The flash on my camera gives intermittant results

When using the Flash on my camera - the result is unpredictable - sometimes over exposed; sometimes under exposed; sometimes perfect.

All other functions ofthe camera appear fine.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Hi,
Acuteally when the settings are at auto programme or any other mode just press the capture button for 3 to 4 secods, So that the camera get the best result by itself. Most of time ppl who use digital camera often press capture button once and leave quickly, This is not the proper way to get the best result. Actueally, camera takes 3 to 5 seconds or some times more few seconds for focusing and controle brightness and other functions. That is why always when you want to get best result just give few seconds to camera to adjust all its functions.
Hope you will understand my sayings.
Thanks for using FIXYA

Hello! I have problems with my flash. Untill yesterday, when I take photos they make multiple light on exposure objects, but not anymore. Now, wheni I turn on automatically flash sometimes it not working,...

Perhaps you only changed the settings. As long as you are on automatic, and don't force the flash off, the flash should work when needed.
The multiple flash you mention, is the flash used to avoid red eyes.
With the first flash(es) the eye closes the pupil, so ref;action of the retina is minimal.
Sometimes the camera also uses the returning flash light to fine tune the focus, if on auto focus.
Just check if the camera is in the setting you always used. Just check if you have the best results with this setting.

My camera say no flash because of micro mode how do i turn the flash on?

The Micro mode is used to shoot close up images. Turning on the flash in micro mode will result washed out over exposed images. Hence in most cameras, choosing the micro mode will automatically disable the built in flash. Some Camera will show the message, cannot use flash or flash cannot be changed because of the micro restriction. This is normal operation. If you wish to use flash, please use some other manual priority mode.
thanks for understanding.

Flash witeout

Hi there, you mentioned continuous shooting right. Your mean Sequence mode? One click and 7- 12 continue image sequence wise? If its then the problem is, your camera battery is not good now. He is not able to give required power supply to you camera flash. When few snaps done after the he loss his battery power & flash power going under(-) & your camera motor going slow, that's why shutter not open and close proper time. And the final result is whiter & whiter images. Hope you understand, what i am saying. So change the battery & buy a new original battery.
Thanks & waiting for your feedback.

Hello - I use the AUTO settting the most on the camera adn if the flash is on the pcture is fine but as soon as i take the flash off the picture is blurry - i'm sure it never used to do this - thank you...

When the flash is on, the light is so short that it stops all motion and results in a sharp picture. When it is off, any movement from you as you snap the picture will result in blur.

Image result over bright at day light

Same problem here with the A430 I contacted Canon tech support and it looks like I'm going to be buying a new camera because it's not worth the effort and money to get it fixed. Rest assured, the new camera will not be a Canon.

Time for new flash??

the camera's light sensor or metering system, for correct flash exposure is no longer working, that's why your shots is either black or white (overexposed or underexposed) the flash firing has loose its control because of the defective sensor, it now only depends on the charge current of the flash capacitor. If you'll wait longer time the charge is maximum picture result will be overexposed(white), and vice versa, less charge, dark result, have the flash assy replaced. Daylight no problem, it doesnt use the flash circuitry, thanks

Flash problems, Casio Ex-z3

Try resetting your camera. Sometimes it is just an issue with the flash charging. In rec mode press menu go to setup tab go up to reset press right arrow highlight reset press set If that doesn't work then u will have to send it in. :)

With Macro flash unit attached, and using the closest subject distance, images are extremely over-exposed.

The camera fails to control the flash output automatically due to the high intensity of Macro ring flash, causing the image to be over-exposed. Please set the camera as below to prevent a undesired result. Camera and Flash Settings - Set the sensitivity to ISO 100 using the function dial of the camera. - Set the flash metering of the camera to Pre-Flash TTL from the recording-mode menu. MACRO RING FLASH 1200 - Set the camera exposure mode to A or M mode. - Set the aperture to f/6.7. - Attach a ND filter x4 (0.6D) to the camera lens. MACRO TWIN FLASH 2400 - Attach a diffuser to the flash tube units. In case the flash tube and the subject is too close, eg. Not using the arms, set the camera exposure mode to A or M mode and the aperture to f/6.7. A subject at minimum distance may still be overexposed. Use exposure compensation to obtain the best result.
