Gateway MX6124 laptop: some keys on the right side of the keyboard display numbers instead of letters. Keys involved and actual display are: Row Starting with q: u=4, i=5, o=6, p=*, Row Starting with a:...

Your computer is in keypad mode. To check, turn off your Num Lock. On my system that disables the embedded keypad. To fix, go into setup (usually F1, F2 or delete when booting). Somewhere you should find a setting for using the embedded keypad. Mine has two options, Fn Key Only and By Num Lock. Yours may be different. One activates the embedded keypad, which you are seeing. Try the other setting.

My blitz doesnt text

Try this. Touch Keypad simulates a wireless phone keypad on the touch screen to allow you to enter text, numbers, and symbols just as if you were using a wireless phone keypad. Touch Keyboard simulates a 20-key QWERTY (typewriter) keyboard on the touch screen to allow you to enter text, numbers, and symbols similar to the way you would using a QWERTY keyboard. To use Touch Keypad or Touch Keyboard:  In a program, tap the Input Selector arrow, and then tap Touch Keypad or Touch Keyboard. To type lowercase letters, tap the keys on the dial pad or keyboard. To type a single uppercase letter, tap the Shift key and then tap the corresponding key. To type all uppercase letters, tap the Shift key twice. To change back to all lowercase letters, tap again. To enter a space after the word, tap the Space key. To start a new line, tap the Enter key. To backspace and delete a single character in any input mode, press the Back key. To open the Symbol pad, tap the Symbol key. To change the input mode:  Tap the Input mode key to switch to a different input mode: XT9 (predictive), Multitap (abc), or Numeric (123).

Hope this helps, let me know if this works or if I can help you with anything else.

Is it giving you numbers and symbols? do this: Press and hold the function key fn while pressing the num lock key num lk . This will deactivate the integrated keyboard/numeric keypad, and the keys will respond normally.

Keypad not functioning properly...

Check to see if your shift, control, alt, or other modifier keys are stuck on your keyboard. These can cause your keyboard to act erratically. Also, if this is a wireless keyboard, you may need to change the batteries, as this can also cause a keyboard to act erratically.

No video on lcd OR vga

how they came to the conclusion it was the hard drive i dont know, as the harddrive is at the bottom of the notebook underneath the board and keypad and the least chance of being liquid damaged, i would say the motherboard onboard graphics are ruined. It's not often notebooks beep anyway to give a clue, but if theres nothing when connected to the VGA then motherboard problems spring to mind.

Might be your USB port. I see USB ports go bad everyday. They are frail little things.
