Question about GE Spectra JBP78 Electric Kitchen Range

Oven won't stop heating; controls don't work; F2 code

GE self clean oven. I self cleaned for the first time in 10 years. Did fine. Two weeks later, after a lot of baking, oven heated up and would not turn off; both elements going full blast. F2 code appeared with a continuous beep. Broke circuit, let cool, turned on circuit breaker, fine for 5 minutes, then did the same thing again. No controls (including "clear") will turn the elements off. Arrgghh! Wonder if self cleaning brought this on, since I've never had a problem. Thanks I have the same problem with my 2 year old GE range/oven. It has worked fine for months and then I ran the self clean mode right before all the wife's holiday baking started. Now the oven doesn't get as hot as it says after cheking with an external thermostat, can't get over 350 degrees even though I set it for 425, and most days it now flashes F2 error code and beeps until I shut if off. I never had any issues until after running the self clean for the very first time. Any help appreciated.

Broiler will not work, but hear relay click and light is on. We can live with that, but while baking for 20 min at 375 degrees, beeping and flashing F2 with broiler now going full blast. Selected off, but broiler still going. Cycled circuit breaker to get broiler off. Oven is electric GE true temp about 11 years old.

I am not an expert, but this has happened to me. Examine your circuit breaker and see that it provides the amps that your oven requires. If it just barely provides it, then it could be that your circuit breaker is tripping if you have anything else on that line and it is being used. Especially hair dryers. If your circuit breaker is not tripping, you should contact GE or repair service because you may have a "power module" problem. Good luck.

SOURCE: Electric Oven not getting hot enough

Sir, I think the top oelement is for broiling ONLY. It should not turn on when baking. The clicking may be the oven heating up.
How far apart were the oven temp instrument and the digital?
Don't expect them to match...they are inaccurate.

1. Heat water until it boils. Place digital therm in boiling water until it comes up to 212deg. If it is not at 212 in boiling water, record the error.(this gives a rough calibration to the digital)
2 Turn on oven, set to 350 deg, place digital therm on rack. Wait until oven reaches 350 (on stove) and read the digital. Note the difference between the two

SOURCE: GE Profile Gas Range oven turns off

I just read that the electronic panel malfunctions due to rear burner use. Now, I know that mine gets REALLY HOT in between the back burners (where the heat exhaust for the oven is) whenever I bake/broil. I am guessing that it can cause the same malfunction fromt he oven, as with the backburners. Whenever I use both back burners, mine shows F7 E6, too. Unplugging it for the night or just waiting til the beeping stops and then clearing it works... until I cook again. I read that the replacement part for the control panel is about $300 and another $200, more or less, to install it! I think this is more like a recall or manufacturer's problem. I have read plenty of complaints and I think GE needs to make a call to fix them!!

SOURCE: After running a self clean

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

You are on right track, as you have already checked the sensor which has around 1100ohms so the problem is with the electronic control board that is bad and needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

I self cleaned the oven and over 12 hours later am getting a f2 error. How do I fix it?

Hello,

The F2 error code means that the oven over heated by at least 100 degrees and the oven temp.sensor needs to be replaced.

On the self clean cycle the oven temp can easily reach over 600 dergees and therefore the sensor thinks it got too hot. If you have not already done so the F2 can be cleared by pushing the CLEAR/OFF button on the control...if the F2 error code reappears the sensor has became defective and it would need to be replaced.

Tried to do self cleaning on oven, about 10 minutes in got "f2 locked door" and it won't clean. what is that all about?

Error code F2 on clean cycle is indicating that the maximum permissable cleaning temperature has been exceeded. (or it's got too hot!)

However it seems unlikely that that would happen in just 10 mins. more likely it is a problem with the oven temperature sensor which should be checked over as should the lock switches..

Bottom oven doesn't heat after running self-clean cycle

Usually, when an oven won't heat, it's because the bake element is burned out. The bake element is the black, pencil- thick tube at the bottom of the oven. When the oven heats, the element glows red. This element has an expected life-span of several years. It may last for only one; it may last for many more. When the element burns out, you need to replace it.

Self-clean turns off after 5 minutes with F2 error message

Hi MaryB,

F2 error code means that the oven temperature is too hot. You will have to replace relay board if faulty. Check and replace oven temperature sensor (RTD). If failure repeats, replace ERC (electronic range control or clock). For replacement part you may contact Sears at 1-800-252-1698; M-F 6:30 AM-10:30 PM - Sat 7:00 AM-9:30 PM - Sun 7:30 AM-9:30 PM - All times Central.

Hope this helps.

First press and hold the cancel/off button for 10 seconds.
If that does not work you have a bad thermal switch due to excessive heat buildup. Possibly a bad fan motor.
The 2 thermal switches are located on top of the oven behind the control panel.

Frigidaire electric stove keeps beeping

IF IT HAS A MECHANICAL CLOCK, THE START AND STOP TIMES NEED TO BE SET, THE OVEN CONTROL SET TO CLEAN, AND THE SELECTOR SWITCH SET TO CLEAN.
TO CLEAN NOW SET START TIME TO THE TIME ON THE CLOCK AND THE STOP TIME TO 3 HOURS LATER.
LOCK THE DOOR. IT SHOULD START AND THE CLEAN LIGHT SHOULD ILLUMINATE, OR OVEN ON LAMP SHOULD LIGHT.
IF IT STILL DOESN'T WORK, THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CLOCK OR THE CONTROLS OR THE LOCK ASSEMBLY.
A WIRING DIAGRAM WOULD BE BEST FOR DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM.

I have the the same problem as discribed above. Does you oven fan go on for a long time after you use your oven during regular baking. Mine seems to stay on for 45 minutes after I bake anything. Can this be all tied together with the f2 problem? I am wondering if it is not just a fan circulation problem?

F2 Oven overheats

jaz3133, it's probably the temp sensor that has gone bad. You should be able to get it from the front. It's the probe that comes out from the back wall of the oven. You can have someone ohm it out. Should read approx 1100 ohms at room temp. Part number for the temp sensor is WB20K5040. Make sure power is off befor removing the sensor. Catriver..post back.
