I have a sony vaio notebook laptop, on taking out the hard drive and putting a new one in, the laptop refuses to switch on, only a green light shows under the screen, also the keyboard ribbon is bent, could this be why it doesn't start?

Usually a protected hard drive has been in a laptop and the hard drive password is setup from the laptop's BIOS configuration. This password is embedded on the hard drive's chip.
This password protects the data from unauthorized access and must be removed before reuse in another laptop or as an external hard drive.
There are no backdoor passwords available and needs to be removed using that laptop's BIOS configuration, you need to know the password to enable you remove the password peotection.

Hello,
Try connecting the drive to another pc with a usb adapter, create a partition and format it. Then put the drive back in the vaio and reinstall windows. This should fix the problem.
