It is repairable. First, check to see if it is still under warranty, (I'm pretty sure Olympus's warranty is one year) or if you purchased an additional coverage, even better. If this is the case, call it in. If not, it will not be worth the $ to repair. Unfortunately it cost as much or close to the price of a new camera to repair them and typically is not worth it. If you want to check around though, you can call some camera stores (Wolf Camera is a good choice if you have one locally). Hope this helps!

I have an olympus Fe-230 and when I try to turn it on the lens goes in and out several times before just closing. Is there any way to fix this?

If you have tried running the camera on Brand New Duracell, or Energizer or equal batteries with a Full and complete charge, and the camera tells you to turn it off, or simply as you say, Shuts down, then consider the following.

High Risk Solution.

This may or may not work, but it has worked for me twice on two different cameras.

The problem you have originates from the lens being bumped when the camera is on, and the gears that extend the lens skipping over a few teeth.

To set it back, watch your lens as it move in and out. Notice which way each of the barrels (levels) of the lens turns while it moves out.

Since the lens cannnot extend to it's full functioning position, (Because the gears are missaligned), it will require a little help. While it is extending, assist the barrel as it moves outwards with a small force turning the barrel in the direction it is moving while it is extending.
A click or two will tell you the gears have jumped a tooth or two, and the lens may be able to extend to it's proper postion.

Turn the camera off and on again to see if there is any difference. Perhaps repeat this several times.

Be VERRY Carefull about this and Use it Only as a Last Resort. Rely first on your warrantee if you have one, and second on your cash, if you can take it to a repair shop where they can do this.

With Great Caution, I hope this helps.

Problem with my Olympus FE-230

When I turn my camera on, the lens goes in and out a few times. Once it's finally on and I look at the screen, everything is blurry. When I take the picture, it's blurry too. If I try to use the zoom to adjust, the lens starts going in and out all crazy and won't adjust right.

Olympus FE 230 Problem

I had the same problem. I hit it a long time ago when it did it for the first time. It has been a year since then and it is doing it again. I tried the book solution again and it will not work. I tried holding the lens, no luck, and I tried applying pressure when the lens went back in, again, no luck. Honestly, I don't think I will buy another Olympus fe series camera again. The solutions provided do help the first few times your camera does it, but you might want to start checking the market for a new camera.

When I power on, the lens keeps going in and out repeatedly

Turn on camera, makes grinding-type noise, then lens goes in and out several times...try to put your camera in a table lcd side down and turn it on...while lightly tapping on the sides of the lens. also try to check out this link

FE-230 Failure to come on

Hi Gary
Is the camera under warranty and registered with Olympus? If not registered, make sure you do that online first. It also extends your warranty to 13 months. If no receipt, It was a gift.
You most likely have a bad lens assembly (was it dropped?) or microprocessor. Here's your link...
