Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.
You need to locate the driver for your camera, In a CD form or direct download form manufacturer website in order to have your laptop read the device you have to tell the laptop what device is attatched either by driver CD, or at fuji website for example.
look up your model on fiji site look for download drivers for your operating system on laptop XP vista etc.. then reboot your computer add the device by connector USB cord then it will see the device OK ? open My computer icon when it starts to see the digital camera icon
I apologize, but did you check to see if the elexctronic viewfinder is active instead of the LCD screen? There is a switch to the right of the viewfinder labelled EVF/LCD and if you accidently pressed that then the LCD stays dark until that is pressed again when the camera is on.
Download the manual from http://www.myacrobatpdf.com/7730/fujifilm-finepix-s5700-finepix-s700-manual.html for detailed instructions. Otherwise, connect a USB cable to the camera and to your PC. Switch the camera on and wait for the computer to recognise it. It should appear as another disk drive under "My Computer" Double click on the drive and it will open the folder structure. You can now right click and "copy" the photos from the camera to the computer folder you wish to put them in
down loading from a camera can be problimatic, the easyest and cheepest and functional way to solve it is to get an external card reader and use that to transfer images no to work on your sulution: The basic thing to start with remove batteries from your camera for a while and reset your computer test or replace the cable you are using and see how you go.
