In the shooting mode press cursor-right repeatedly to cycle through the various flash modes. To turn off the flash choose the lightning bolt in a circle with a slash through it. Full details are in the "Flash (Selecting a flash mode for still images)" section of the Cyber-shot handbook (page 26 in my copy). If you need the handbook and/or the manual you may download them from here.

There\'s a little switch between the pop up Flash and the top of the camera that sounds like its stuck down, its under the flash when it\'s up, look for this switch and see it if it goes up and down, if not then it needs repair.

Flash is not firing

Very little to go on, but in every camera you can switch off the possibility to flash. How to switch it on must be very easy, because it is always in the top menus of every camera. Looking on the back of your camera, with the menu on, you should see a flash symbol, with a bar through the symbol, then it is off. Try to switch it on. If the symbol is on (without bar) look if it is dark enough so the flash should work. You also could try to reset the camera to the default settings. But is the flash still does not work something else could be wrong. Just try an external flash. If it does nothing, after you tried everything above, I can't think of anything else. Success.

I am getting this message on my EOS 450d, (camera's built in flash pop up was obstructed turn the power switch to off and on again). I have done this several times the flash wont pop up - can you please...

Sometimes the pop-up flash on the EOS range of cameras can get stuck. The EOS family have a very tiny micro switch under one blade of the flash hot-shoe.

Get a toothpick and manually pop the switch. It should clear your error, too.

Good Luck.

It sounds like the flash went to sleep. The normal time for this is 10 minutes. If you switch the camera over to slave mode, it should switch to 60 minutes.
I hope this helps! That's a great setup!

The flash is in macro mode. What does that mean and how do I get the flash to turn on?

The macro mode is for taking pictures of subjects very close to the camera. The camera disables the flash in this mode. There's a switch on the left side of the camera, near the USB port. Slide this switch away from the flower symbol and toward the mountain symbol to switch out of the macro mode.

My camera wont flash ... How do i get it to flash ?

Most cameras have a button that looks like a lightning bolt. Hit that button and it will usually switch between flash options or it will bring up a flash menu. Some camera modes will automatically set your camera to auto flash, so if the room is dark, flash is on, and room is light enough the flash shuts off. You might need to switch to a different picture mode, like P or Programmable that lets you manually set your camera options.

How do i make the camera flash

Make sure you're not in the macro mode. There's a switch on the end of the camera, near the SD card slot. Set this switch to the mountain position.
Also bear in mind that the flash is for still pictures only, not for videos.

Flash not working

First, be aware that the flash only works in still mode, not in video mode.
Second, check the macro/far switch on the left end of the camera. The flash won't fire if this switch is in the macro position (flower icon).
