Question about Vivitar 285HV Flash
I want to make a AC for my Vivitar 285 flash.
I do not have the manual.
Since it uses 4 aa batteries, I am assuming it needs 6 Volts DC. I need to know what pin is the positive.
(When looking at the flash right side up)
Thanks a lot.
You should not put AC voltage into DC circuits.
A better directions:
Open open the 285 and solder two wires(red = positive; black = negative) then snake it out to AC connector(this needs to be removed).
Buy 7.2V plug set from Radio Shack or remote control car stores.
Buy 7.2V Battery and Charger.
This will be better than buying the Quantum & cable battery.
It will also wake up the flash faster than using the Quantum.
The total cost should be less than $85.00.
The battery is about 5X stronger than those 4 AA and they do last longer.

Each nicad cell has actually 1.2 volts so 1.2 X 4 =4.8 volt you apply
normally. If you want to use external power you must not give 7.5 volts
or even 6v .Reduce the voltage by electronics means.Or use 4 D size
Nicad package, which are easy to get in local elec.part shop
AC power given on side is not for home AC voltage.
