I'm gonna replace the head gasket, b4 dismantling the head any further, i have the rotor arm of distributor in line with no 1 spark plug lead contact (inside disrtibutor cap), the notch on the outside of the camshaft sprocket (sohc 8v) is inline with the ''OT'' marking on the outside of the cylinder head block casing, I can feel compression as i rotate the crankshaft sprocket at the point which i think is tdc, I have seen a a notch and a seperate DOT marking on the crankshaft sprocket (this is the part that is confusing me), Is the engine at tdc and does it have to beon the compression stroke As well? Thanks for any help.
Slide a straw or a pen into the plug hole and slowly rotate crank pully back and forward and note the rise and fall of the straw this will indicate TDC . once TDC is achieved note the mark on the pully should be alighn with a mark on the timming case .rotor button to number one lead will have you on compression stroke .cheers MAL
