Image problems - samsung L100

I take pictures with my Samsung L100 and they look fine on the camera's display - but two dodgy things happen.

1. When I view my pictures sequentially (on the camera) there is sometimes a long pause before I can move onto the next one, and on occasion when this happens the camera reports a file error. It is only a handful of pictures on the memory at any time that seem to cause the problem.

2. When I transfer my pictures onto my laptop the images are distorted, for example as if someone has cut them with a guillotine and offset the different parts of the image. Plus the brightness of the picture is different above and below the cut.

Is this a camera fault or a problem with the memory card? Any ideas for fixing the problem?

Hi, I have the exact same problem!

  • Anonymous Jan 31, 2009

I have exactly the same problem, so I took the camera back and changed it for the same model, yet again the same problem. Ruined my pics from my birthday and a trip to Paris.
Think the best solution is to get a different model.

I have the exact same problem with the scrambled / multicolored images.

The funny thing is that they look when reviewing them on the camera itself, however when one transfers them to the PC is when they're scrambled.. Im at a loss, I thought samsung was a quality company.

I have same problem. It seems to be only on pics thatwere taken while out of focus. All the pics taken when the auto focus light turns green are fine, but ones that where red seem to freeze the system up when u try to view them. I find that the best thing to do is just delete the bad ones after the freeze stops.

You can try a different memory card, but I don't think the problem is memory card, if pictures look scrambled, and colors and brightness are not uniform, that is either a problem with CCD sensor (optic sensor that takes the picture), or logic board.
In either case, this is not an easy repair.

Reset the camera to default settings from camera menu, and try a different memory card, but the camera will probably need to be sent in for repairs.

Standby Mode? Won't stay on longer than 3 seconds

Are you absolutely sure the battery is good? Do you have a battery eliminator that you can plug into camera to double check? Do you have another battery you can throw in there ? Is the memory chip ok? A corrupted chip can sometimes shut down a camera.
If unit still does this with a known, confirmed, good power supply, then the electronics are at issue and given the high cost of proprietary parts and labor, a repair might not be cost effective.

My Samsung L100 Camera doesn't know how to flash once!

Most cameras flash twice; the first one is for setting the exposure, the second one is for real. About the best you can do is warn your targets that the camera is going to flash twice.

Yes, the L100 has a self-timer. Press Right on the selector (the clock icon) until the desired mode indicator appears on the display. Your choices are 10-second delay, 2-second delay, double self-timer, and motion timer.

The self-timer is described on pages 29-30 in my copy of the manual.

Samsung L100 digital camera beep problem

If the lens is retracted, hold up the camera to your eye and look at the lens. If you see one end sticking out a little bit, push that side in and press the power button. It should work.
If the lens isn't retracted, push the lens around until it is in its regular position. When you press the power button, it will retract and come out again and should work fine.

Hope this advice helps!

I have a samsung L100 digital camera. the battery had to be recharged but the lens cover only partially closed at the time that it shut down. I tried to recharge the battery, when I turn on the power...

The battery was tested and showed to be fine. The camera just malfunctioned during the shutdown. The used battery was put into a new camera and it's been fine.

No display on lcd no picture

The shutter is jammed closed. This blocks the light from reaching the image sensor. This problem can generally be fixed without parts, price will be $100-150 for labor from a professional. Depending on the purchase price of the camera, you may be better off getting a new camera.
