GE photo phone - CID not working in India

Hi All,
I've bought a GE photo phone from US and it was working fine there. But in India Caller ID is not working properly. I mean when any incoming call comes, phone doesn't show any number! If anybody could help me on this or help me get GE support personal. In phone there is one option like area code, i tried playing with that even but of no help.

    Hello Mehul,

I wish i had seen this posting earlier because i have ordered the same phone. I wish i had not done that. I would connect it & let you know if it works for me. I had a question for you, are you using MtnlBsnl or have you tried Airtel landlines?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I got the Ge Photophone from US but it is not working at all here. I didnt check it there though ( didnt bother to open the pack). The problem I am facing is the display does not show any pictures, I tried to reset but it does not give any pics. After the handset battery got exhausted I tried charging it again but it does not work either.

    thanks,

    Deepu

I doubt it will work, as there are differences between the codes that US phones expect for caller ID and what India is sending....

Sorry, but that wont work.

Did you buy an FSK CID unit for India's DTMF CID? There's an adapter or you need the right unit.

Caller ID/CLIP) not working in Panasonic cordless

Well if the phone has been bought abroad and being used in India you will face this problem. this is because of the format of transmitting the caller id info being different. In USA it is STF and in India it is DTMF. You need a convertor in the phone line which is DTMF to STF. IF you find onw in Delhi pl let me also know.

Caller id function does not work

Hi
I had the same problem
I learnt that in India DTMF is used while in US it is FSK for Caller ID`s.
Get a EX220 converter and put it in between your Tel and system
It works

The id caller is not working in that cordless phone

Any Caller Id phone bought in USA will not show the id as the Caller id format in USA is FSK and in India it is DTMF. You need a caller id converter from DTMF to FSK. It is available online on www.ebay.in Just type DTMF to FSK converter and the item will be displayed. Right now it is avilable only with a seller in Bangalore and the price is Rs.589/- per piece. I bought it and it is working fine.

Caller ID not working in India

In USA, CANADA, telephone company uses FSK for Caller ID detection while Indian Telecom companies uses DTMF standard. this is the mismatch and reason for caller ID not working.

u need to purchase seperate caller ID for it.

CALLER ID ONLY SHOWS "INCOMING CALL"

I was using this site while trouble shooting this in the US...
If the customer has DSL with filters in the same system go back to the NID and Isolate the DSL,
test the caller id and call waiting caller id. If this works you have Data Bleed coming from the DSL.
Make sure there are not two sets of filters on the line. Tjis customer had a filter with the DSL modem.

Doing this we just fixed an on going problem for a field tech who was the second callout on a customer issue.

Caller ID not working in India

I too purchased an Uniden phone for India. Everything except the caller ID works fine. The caller ID wont work as the technology used in India is different. Try purchasing a FSK to DTMF converter or a separate caller ID box.

Caller id

Caller ID in the USA uses the FSK standard. For the most part, caller ID in India uses DTMF (although I have heard of some FSK usage).

I am currently living in New Delhi and have an Airtel home phone line. My switch uses DTMF. I went to the Palika electronics bazaar (I aways use shop number 266 near gate 5, they seem to be a little kinder to foreigners as far as the "final price") and purchased an DTMF to FSK convertor. My US phones now show caller ID information, although using US number seperations ### - ### - ####. I paid R500 but you could probably get it for around R400 if you are willing to put in the time bargaining. It looks like they are also available on Indian Ebay.

Mine says UST001B. It looks like these are low volume items because they stuck the components into a box marked "DSL Splitter" It works to convert the caller ID as advertised.
