yeah but what if you accidentally used the recovery wizard and deleted everything, partitions and all? No recovery partition left to use, and now getting... checking media [Fail]... followed by No bootable device--please restart system- I have bootable windows cd's but it won't read them for some reason, not even on a usb . this toshiba laptop is only 1 month old and daughter got virus.
If you made recovery media for the laptop then you can recover the laptop using the CD or DVDs you created when you bought it. Failing that Toshiba may have included a recovery utility so try pressing R on boot or F10/F11.
If they haven't, contact Toshiba and you should be able to buy recovery DVDs for your laptop.
You need to make a bootable CD, put theToshiba DMI utility on the bootable CD; Boot from that CD, then run DMI utility to set the machine to match the designation on your recovery disks. That'll do it.
Did you install the windows system etc? If not boot from the system restore cd and it should work. If it will not boot from the cd-rom then more damage was done then was apparent and the unit would require factory qualified repair. Be sure of the cost before committing to repair since on laptops sometimes it is cheaper to replace the repair. Good Luck
Just go through it and delete everything left behind.
if you want to do a complete format and reinstall then you can use any A100 system disc (borrow one?) download one from the link below. http://www.recovery-cds.com/laptop/product.asp?product=5396&ph=search&keywords=toshiba,recovery,cd,get&recor=1&SearchFor=any&PT_ID=all
With some Toshiba models you an burn a recovery DVD from the XP software. Look in programs/ accessories, system tools or use the built in HELP for any info
