My dvd re writer wont work

hi , i have a philips 8xdvd-rw re-writer , i have installed it , and have windows media, i have window xp , but the dvd,s wont run , i have been told that i need a decoder , but as im not pc tech minded , i dont know where to go from here, can i download a decoder , can anyone help please , thanks cheryl

hi babb, i tried the links you sent me but it still wont work, the disc does come up in my computer , i have windows media player 11, but it just wont run the dvd i put in, it says i need to alter my screen resolution , but ive tried that too , but to no availe, isent it annoying, thanks anyway , cheryl

GuruWell, when you insert a disc and go to My Computer then to the DVD drive itself, does it show that a disc is in the drive, if it does does and you open the drive does it show the contents of the drive! If so then you are having a software issue regarding the decoder!
You can check out the following link:

Also you can try this free codec site:
http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_...
If when you go to My computer an the disc does not come up in the drive or the drive doesn't show or anything like that you may be having problems witht the drive / configuration itself

Have you tried other dvds?
If those still don't work then you can try this link

Download that pack, exract it and install!
And then there also other DVD software which always does the trick, try PowerDVD or WinDVD!

i have a compaq computer wit xp sp3 but have been ask to download a decorder and a dvd rw driver i dont no no site wer i can download it from
