Upgrade cpu on pavilion 6630

Im trying to upgrade my daughters hp. i put in more ram, changed cpu to 750mhz from a spare compaq presario, since they're both the 370. i also changed the fan & heatsink unit that was with the presario.

i have power, i hear & feal the fan running but i have no video nor lights on the tower signifying the cpu is processing.

with original cpu, i see light on tower & hear it procesing but i still have no video. seems like two different problems.

Just because the 750mhz cpu is socket 370 that doesnt mean it'll work...the 750 mhzcpu is probably a FCPGA 1.75 volt w/ 100mhz fsb and the original cpu is of the PPGA package, 66mhz fsb, 2volts, etc. i think itll only work with pc100 but im not sure...as for the video i have no clue...

I am suggesting you the solution keeping in mind that there is no display is on the monitor.
The max ram that HP Pavilion 6630 PC Desktop can support is 256 mb pc 100 or pc 133mhz.
check if you have installed that amount of ram, if thats correct then check if any continues beep sound is coming out of CPU.

if there is beep try to change the ram slot.the more possibilty i either the new ram is faulty or incompatibel.

try to install the old ram see if it works. if still no display.

install old cpu and heat sink.see what happen ..

then let me know the result.

bye & take care..

I have one of these and it supports 384MB as I have it congfigured. I looked at HP for a manual bit I keepgettong a page called computergripes. I don't need that page as I have enough gripes aboput HP's PC support. But this box will do more than 256 MB.

It's really a nice little box that I've kept because it is perfect for my use of Open Office, Scribus, etc. Small, quiet, reliable and, since I replaced the Windoze with Linux, actually fairly fast for anyone but a gamer.

What is the best upgrade cpu for a compaq presario sr5110nx 32 bit vista O.S... ATHLON 64 (single core) without having to go to 64 bit, and/or new drivers ?

The 400W PSU is going to limit your CPU selection to dual-core at best, although you might be able to get away with a higher-end dual-core CPU if your RAM is not ECC and not dual-channel, and you're not running anything serious in terms of a graphics or sound card or a SCSI array.

Given your current setup I'd really look for a 1.6Ghz dual-core Athlon which has a decent amount of KB in its Level 1 and Level 2 cache, but 3MB for its Level 3 cache.

Anything beyond that ballpark of a CPU upgrade is certainly well within the bounds of diminishing returns, and you should look at getting a new PSU, motherboard, and probably RAM (I'm guessing you're using DDR2 RAM currently).

How can i add speed to my compaq presario sr5210nx with vista

The best way to add speed would be to upgrade the RAM on your PC. Your motherboard supports up to 2GB of RAM. If the PC that you can take parts from Has 2GB of 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) then, you can swap those modules.

Otherwise, you can buy them at the link provided below:

RAM is the best way to breath new life into an older PC.

Instead of upgrading, do a full installation of XP. You will be prompted to either keep your old system or remove it. Choose to remove it. That will solve your problem. Don't forget to rate this answer
