Question about Panasonic NN-S963BF Microwave Oven
My microwave shuts off after 38 seconds. Even during the 38 seconds, there is no heating of anything in the microwave. I have not tried any fixes yet.
This model uses an inverter to produce high voltage. That symptom is an usually indication of a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron. Due to the lethal voltages involved, I do not recommend that a person without training and experience ever work on these models. You should be able to locate a Panasonic-authorized servicer here: http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/WhereTo/FindServicer.asp?Pass=1 I would mention the exact symptom when you call so the technician can bring a new inverter or magnetron with him when he comes out to repair it. Might save you having it pulled into the shop.

Tips for a great answer:
If the microwave runs for a few seconds and then shuts off, a door switch might have failed intermittently. Check each of the door switches for any signs of overheating, arcing, or burning. Also check each of them for continuity. Replace any of the switches that is visibly damaged or that only has continuity intermittently
the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad and
control panel might be defective. There are several other components
that can cause this problem, be sure to check any other components
before replacing this board.
the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad might be
at fault. This is not common. Generally speaking, if the microwave
display is working and some of the buttons respond correctly but
some don't, the problem is with the touchpad.
the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the thermostat might

The magnetron may have either failed or
is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 on high resistance range for short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.
