Toshiba Satelite overheating after upgrading RAM??!!!

After upgrading to 2gig RAM from half a gig (basically) RAM, it now can't stay on more than 10 minutes...went down to 1gig just to see if that was somehow contributing to the overheating that has suddenly started up and it's still doing it....any clues as to why this would all of sudden happen? What about a fix for this? And yes, it's compatible and the board supports up to 2 gig, so the upgrade shouldn't cause a huge conflict like this, or could it even though it says it can hold it?

Elevation: check. Fans running: check. Dust: eh, a little but here's the mystery: original RAM was put back in and now it's fine. I had a car once that needed a new carburetor but didn't work with a new one. Put the old one back on and it ran like a dream....maybe the laptop just doesn't WANT an upgrade... /shrug it's a mystery.....

it does it even with just the OS running...i know RAM can heat up, but geez...should it just have a fan upgrade too?

Hm this is interesting

Have you tried elavating the laptop so its not flat on the desk? Try propping it up with something

In what situation does it overheat? CPU Intensive stuff orr just normal use?

Sudden overheating may be due to dust blocking the vents at the back. Have a look and see if you can see any dust , buy a can of compressed air and blow it all out

This is real easy underneath you will see a large flap undo the screws hold it, and remove, you will see the RAM slotted into the socket, simply obtain the correct RAM for your laptop, and slot it in besides, or instead of, replace cover, and reboot, it will automatically be detected and used. If you have done it before then you are on your way to being an expert.. Oh we always say and "X" is an unknown quantity, and a "Spurt" is "Drip" under pressure...Xpert... < Joke.

How to Upgrade to max RAM

The Acer Aspire One can be upgraded to a total RAM of 2Gigs. This will allow for you to upgrade to Windows XP Pro and also to Microsoft Office 2003 as there is no version of Office Professional. If you would like more specifics on your particular model, please look here. http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/acer-aspire-one-10-inch.aspx?page=3

Upgrading RAM is a fairly simple process. As this is a fairly compact laptop in design, you will have to upgrade to a new 2Gig RAM module and basically discard (or sell) the one you end up removing. In order to find out the type of RAM you'll need, remove the cover as show in the picture and the info for the existing RAM should be written on it.

Good luck!

Ram on the HP 530

Yes a 512 or RAM can run a Vista system but it will be much slower so if you want to be able to use the Vista systme to the fulless better if you upgrade the RAM of your computer to atleast 1 GIG of RAM but 2GIG will be much better so Vista will work smoothly....

Upgrading my Satellite l45-s7423 for gaming

A. vista 32bit supports 2.5-3 gigs and vista 64bit supports 8-16. i would stick at least 2gigs for vista 3gigs being recommended. a way to figure out what type of ram is to download CPU-Z.

B.most likely you can't upgrade your graphics card. but i would check Toshiba's web site to see for sure.

C. there are things that you can try to make it slightly better for gaming. try downloading the latest video drivers for it.

a lot of laptops have the option of dedicating some system ram for video. try turning that up.

the next thing you could do is download riva tuner. this will let you overclock your gpu but don't overclock too much cause you could fry the video card and you might not be able to replace it.

Toshiba l45-7423 laptop has two memory slots. With 512 in each, runs ok. With 2 gig in top slot, 512 in bottom slot, runs ok. with 2 gig in bottom slot, says it has memory errors. this limits me to 2.5 gig...

HI embreelynn,

just want to check, did you left the top slot open when you put the 2gig in the bottom slot, if you do, I suggest you try it with the 512 in the top slot and the 2gig in the bottom, the reason is that some mobo implements "banking" which means that you'll have to fill in the 1 mem slot before the using 2nd, 3rd and so on.

hope this helps, regards.

Upgrading acer laptop RAM

Hi,
You Can Actually Upgrade This To 2 Gig Memory.
Each Slot Will Take 1 A Gig Strip.
I,d suggest Buying another 256 mb Strip, To Put Into Slot 2.
Or Buy a 512mb ( Half Gig ) Which Will Give you 750mb With your Existing Strip Already In There. ** Recommend 1 Gigabyte Max** 2 gig of Ram in This Baby Would Probably Start Glowing.
You Can Buy DDR/266/333 In 256/512/1 Gig Strips. These Are Commonly Known As SD-RAM-Modules.
