Re: password

--you will find the SSID (name of your network) on the bottom of the modem --the network key is also available there. --select the network by ssid --enter the network key --the network key would be in alpha numeric (10 Digits) --or you can check it in the modem site --check the ip adress --by Start/run/cmd/ipconfig --check default gateway --enter that address in internet explorer --that will get the modem page --you can check it there --but the best way is to check it on the bottom of the modem

How to obtain public IP from Time Warner

There are two basic types of IP addresses of internet service providers (ISPs) to provide customers with Internet services: a dynamic address or DHCP and a static IP address. A static IP, as the name implies, uses the exact same IP, and you're online all the time. The DHCP IP configuration uses a "stack" of available IP addresses each time a modem is online and an IP address of the network of the ISPs is simply grabs the first available IP address from the stack. During this time, goes through the boot cycle, contact your provider and ask for a dynamic IP address.

3. Navigate to the computer's IP Configuration Manager. For most versions of Windows, the easiest way to do this is to open the Start menu, click All Programs, then select "Command Prompt" from the "Accessories" menu (for future versions of Windows, you may need to the right button on the Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator "to show itself sufficient permissions on IP of the computer information).

4. IP address to test your computer by typing "ipconfig" and "Enter" Command to the numbers printed next to "IP address", like "IPv4 or IPv6 address." The number displayed on the public IP address of the DHCP as the modem from Time Warner will receive net.
How do i get my pppoe username and password?

If you got it from your cable provider you will need to contact them to get that information.

If you bought it outright and are pairing it with your ISP then again you will have to contact your provider.

Most cases (Time Warner or Comcast) the modem should set itself up on first run and have you set up a password directly from their main site.

I recently purchase comcast internet and cable. I have a motorola surfboard SB5101U cable modem and when I try 2 connect my xbox to xboxlive, it says that my network doesn't have a sufficient MTU setting....

You actually should call comcast and tell them about the issue, They have a backdoor into your modem that they can troubleshoot it for you. The issue with their modems is they are usually locked with some weird password they use.

Usually with a modem or router you can dial an internal page but there system like Time Warner is set to their needs so that they can keep that back-door open.

Comcast phone number is 1-800-266-2278 or 1-800-Comcast same numbers thats just the way they word it on their site.

Not recognized by cable modem

Turn everything off for 2 minutes, cable modem, router and pc.

Turn on modem and wait 2 minutes for the modem to sync to TW.
Turn on router after 2 mins and wait until the router syncs with the modem.
Turn on PC
It sounds like your router lost its connection to the cable modem, which happens from time to time. TW will not help with your router. I worked for a cable co and the router and modem losing sync was the at least 70% of the calls. FYI cable doesn't use DSL,just the phone co.

Isp password and name?

Your ISP should give you your username and password, not the router manufacturer. To know how to punch it in your router, please refer to your router user manual.

I have an AT&T Modem; having trouble with internet connectivity

It is OK to keep putting the UN and PW in. However you shouldn't have to. I suggest having a tech come to your home and have them do a signal test both at your jack and outside with your home unplugged from your service box. If there is a big difference in the numbers then you're simply loosing signal due to signal bleed inside. This is a simple fix. Have them isolate some wires in your jack and place a DSL filter outside. Then your DSL signal will go straight to your modem and not bounce all over your home. This will NOT affect your phone.

Well, I understand that the modem is SS4100, which means ther are
5lights on it being, Power, Ethernet, DSL, Internet & Activity....
Note:The trouble shooting is done according to the Light Status on the modem.
1. No matter what the proble is, the first step is to Power Cycle the modem to eliminate the static on the modem(to switch it off and back on).
2. If the Power Light is anything other than a solid green, then the modem is fried(except the fact that the adapter is plugged and working).
3. If the Power is green and Ethernet is off, then check for the LAN cable at the back
of the computer if its connected to the modem.(It turns green if connected properly)
4. If the DSL light is anything other than solid green, then call up the ISP tech's to ask why the intenet is not working.
(make sure the DSL cable is plugged firmly onto the back of the modem and the wall jack)
5. If the Power, Ethernet and the DSL is green and the internet is not, the open up the Modem page(type in the address bar and enter for the modem page), and cross-check for the username and the password. Save the changes and your internet is working!!!
6. The Activity light usually blinks green and it does't have much to do with the troubleshooting.
The above are the basic troubleshooting steps.
Hope it solves your problem......

Internet light turned red and won't change back to green

If the Internet is red, this may be because of problem with authentication. Please pull the configuration page of modem and check whether the username/password are correct.

Take care

Do I need to open ports?

There are no ports to open on the DCM425, as it's a cable modem, not a firewall. Earthlink/Time Warner will likely not be truthful when it comes to blocking ports on their end. Would it be possible to change the port that your PS2 is using?

Same goes for the bittorrent question, only I'd switch to uTorrent and different ports as well.
