SOURCE: singer 5417 not sewing. thread

More than likely it is your top threading. Insert new needle, (flat side facing away from you), totally rethread. Now with presser foot up, pull top thread it should feed easily, now put the presser foot down, the thread should hardly move. This should seat the thread in the tension discs. Hopefully, that is not your timing. You can download a free copy of your manual at www.singerco.com and save it on your computer, then enlarge the diagrams to see everything easily.

Hey everyone, I was trying to change my needle and it fell straight down I to my machine it's like I disappeared.... is there anyway To get it out ?? I have a Singer quantum 5417

Since the needle fell into the needle plate, first remove the needle plate. You need to loosen and remove two screws. Then lift off the needle plate. I think you should be able to see the needle between the feed dogs. In the future, leave the old needle threaded before loosening the screw. Temporarily thread the needle and make sure that the thread tail is long. Now, insert your new needle and secure it. If you ended up with the thread wrapped around the needle, remove the thread from the needle and then correctly thread the needle. If the needle falls, you can use the thread to carefully pull the needle back up by holding the thread on both sides of the needle.

I hope this helps.

I have a 5417 C, How do I do a Blind Stitch?

You will need a blind stitch foot. I believe that your machine requires a short shank foot. If you already have the foot, you can refer to the Singer sewing book for step by step or go to YouTube for a video of the process (the video uses a different machine but the process is the same) :

I have a singer 5417 and it feels like it is seizing up when i use the peddle or turn it by hand

The best thing to do is thoroughly clean the machine and oil it. Take off the throat plate and make sure that there is no lint hiding underneath. I got fooled once, years ago, I thought it was felt that came with the machine, guess what, there was no felt that came with the machine, it was lint packed up so tight that it looked that way. If, I hadn't taken off the throat plate, I would never have seen it and thought that I cleaned it right. Try this and I hope that it helps.
