Question about Dual XD7600 CD Player

Open Question

Face Opens and Closes and opens and closes...etc..

One summer day my faceplate got stuck in a mid-open position. I unplugged the power supply and hit the reset button and it closed. Since then (months ago) when I hit the OPEN button, the faceplate opens and closes over and over again.. I've disconnected power, cleaned connections I see but no change. I've also lost all of my personalized settings i.e. volume level at power up, default positions, etc.. and I lost my manual so I can't reset those. I kept the player b/c of it's handy aux input, but now my ipod has died as well, and I can't rely on the stereo for music or radio! I think the heat in my area (Mid-East Alabama) may not be good for it, but come on, it's a car stereo, it's gonna get hot, right? I hope someone can help, otherwise I'm off to the stereo sites.. Thank you! -W

SOURCE: Flip Down faceplate is stuck.

I have the same problem, and all my problem was is that one of the wheels were out of place. You can see these white gears at the bottom left and right. Just stick something in there and push it back in place. It should just snap back in.

Faceplate won't open all the way

Sometimes the mechanism is misplaced, just disassemble that mechanism and turn on radio without the secondary plate and wait until the motor to get to the final position when it turns off again, reassemble.

Pioneer premier deh-p880 prs faceplate opens when you turn car off

The face folds down to give you the option to remove the face if you want. It will return to the upright position a few seconds later whether you remove the face or not. There should be a tab on the underside of the face you can push should you decide to detach the face from the chassis.

Basically I have the same problem that has been displayed a lot on this site. My pioneer DEH-P7800MP display won't show when the face closes. When the face opens up all the buttons and lights and display...

The faceplate and head unit is is attached via a flat ribbon cable. (Caution only continue if you have some courage). If you open the faceplate you will see that the ribbon cable is seated in too a flat connector on the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). This connector has a locking mechanism on it that when locked presses the contacts of the cable to the connector. Ensure that the cable is seated properly and that the latch or the lock is in the locked position. Assuming that the tension lessons when the unit is closed so it draws away from the connector and when the unit is open it pulls tension creating a contact. If you see no signs of mishap on this end of the connector try the other end.
Hope this helps.

Kenwood KRC-x858 stuck halfway between closed and open

have the exact same problem. I called the Kenwood tech line and the tech reported that the ribbon cable2_bing.gif is probably broke. It is the flex cable between the head unit and the rotating face plate. He said it's not an expensive fix but we would need to mail it to a service center if you're like me and not near one. I just replaced mine with a new unit. It was about time anyways.

Kenwood KDC-X717 - Facplate opens when powered on, stays open. No display.

I've had this problem before. The ribbon cable needs to be replaced. They wear out every few years. Take it in for service. Or do you want to sell it? I need the face plate for mine.

Wont stay open

I had load of these units and the cure is simple. You need to replace the ribbon to the faceplate as these get damaged due to wear and tear. Every unit i had with this fault, i fixed by replacing this ribbon. Buy the ribbon and surround as the new surround is a modified one to give extra life to the ribbon. Hope this helps, good luck!

Pioneer powers off when face plate opens.

My first guess would be that the ribbon cable between the flip face and the mother board has gone bad. This is a very, very common problem. I'd suspect that above everything else at this point.

Some flip face stereos use a tiny micro switch to tell the onboard computer when the face is down or up and sometimes it uses the same switch for both positions sensing. It could be this switch is not working properly (dirty contacts, broken, bad wire, mis-aligned, etc.) and that is causing the problem. Good luck.
