You may have selected Notepad as the program to use to open file folders. Right click the "ipod" icon and select Explore instead of Open, and see if it will display the contents of the ipod. Whether it is successful or not, at some point you will need to open up My Computer --> Fodler Options --> File Types, and find out which file types are associated with Notepad. This is time-consuming, but it the safe way to approach the problem. There is advice online that will show you how to edit it by registry, but this method is fraught with peril - one false move and you could ruin your computer. Good luck!

I cannot get my i phone 4 to sync with i tunes. It tells me the required disc cannot be found.

This symptom may be caused by an issue with the digital signing of Windows XP drivers. Following the steps below to reregister the several .dll files mentioned below may resolve this issue. Before attempting the steps below, try to restore the iPod using the latest version of iTunes. If you are unable to restore the iPod or if the symptom reappears, follow these steps:
  1. Disconnect the iPod from the computer and close iTunes.
  2. Highlight all of the following 10 lines of text that begin with regsvr32 and then choose Copy from the Edit menu of your web browser: regsvr32 /s softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll
    regsvr32 /s initpki.dll

  3. Open the Notepad program by navigating to:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad
  4. In Notepad, choose Paste from the Edit menu. Note: Make sure that the text that appears in Notepad is the same as what is shown above.
  5. From the File menu, choose Save As.
  6. For File name, type appleipod.bat and save the file to the Desktop.
  7. Close Notepad and locate the appleipod.bat file. It should appear on the Desktop with the icon shown below: ts1539_1.jpg
  8. Double-click the file and you will see a black window appear on the screen for about a minute. Wait until the window automatically disappears and proceed to the next step.
  9. The appleipod.bat file can be deleted at this time.
  10. Open iTunes and connect the iPod.
  11. When the iPod appears in iTunes, restore the iPod and resync your content.
Note: Because some malware may unregister the .dll files, make sure you have the most recent updates to your anti-virus software and then do a full scan of your files.
Solution 2This symptom may also be caused by software applications which change the appearance of Windows XP. Try deleting or removing any third-party Windows OS skins, Windows themes, or desktop mods that are installed to resolve the iTunes Error -50 issue when syncing your iPod to Windows XP.

This happens some times when the soft ware crashes. It is not generally a problem with the ipod directionally. You just need to restore the ipod, and this will put a new version of the software on.

Once at the computer you will need itunes open and your ipod connected

1) Make sure you have the latest vertion of itunes downloading
you can check this by going to { HELP>CHECK FOR UPDATES}

2) On the ipod hold the sleep wake button at the top and the home button on the bottom at the same time until you see the apple logo

3) Once you see the apple logo - release the sleep/wake button but remain holding the home button

4) You will see an error message from your computer
f53db07.jpg

5) click ok - Then the restore button - the restore will take about 15- 20 minutes

Note: if you have previously backed up the ipod it will prompt you to restore from back up in the restore process

6) re - sync2_bing.gif your content after the restore is complete

7) after sync disconnect and use

I hoped this helped-

** NOTE: If you get an error while restoring the ipod try and restore from another computer ***

Forgot the lock code?is their a bypass code!

I have figured out a stupidly easy way to bypass the screen lock on an iPod. Here's how the feature is supposed to work: You set a combination lock to keep someone from viewing your personal contacts and changing the song. This lock survives a reboot, and can only be reset if you dial in the lock code or plug it into the home computer to which the library is synchronized.

How do you bypass this in case you forgot? Quite simple. Just get another PC or Macintosh. If your iPod Nano is mac formatted, you'll need a copy of MacDrive to view the disk. Ensure that your system is set to view hidden files and folders; this is accomplished much more easily on a windows machine (explorer: tools > options > view > show hidden files)

Steps:
Mount the nano (plug it in)
Navigate to X:\iPod_Control\Device\ (where X is the drive letter of the iPod)
Find the file called "_locked" and open it with Notepad or TextEdit
There's your code.
OR... rename the file to _unlocked
Close Textedit/Notepad, and eject iPod from computer
