Question about Dell Precision Workstation 490 - MT - 32bit Dual Core Intel Xeon Processor 5120 1.... PC Desktop
Ati or nvidia? I have always had ati products, but I noticed that dell is often shipped with nvidia cards,is there a reason I should want to get an nvidia instead of ati for our dell precision 490? I like the ati fireGL because we're doing a DAW and we don't want a fan on the graphics card (fireGL has a radiator instead of a fan so its great for audio workstations). I don't know if nvidia has a graphics card without a fan like the ATI fireGL...on a sidenote, our ATI fireGL is defective, so I"d have to buy another one...do many people report problems with the ATI fireGL?? we don't care about gaming firepower, for audio workstation, we just want reliable and lots of screen real estate.
To me it is probably personal preference. I have always like Nvidia, and I have had a couple of systems that had ATI. Nvidia to me seems more stable and more reliable. You might search some sites for benchmark comparisons
