Question about HP Photosmart 3180 All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

My printer has eaten about 15-20 pages of copy paper all at once.  Is there a release button to get these out?

I had the same problem and cleared out the paper from the back...maybe a bit too hard....now I have two intact looking parts that fell out of it when I turned it over. One appears to be a dog leg with 3 holes in it, the other is a u shaped spring clip that looks like a "stirrup". Can I fix this myself, or should I just go buy a new one?

The only thing I have ever done is power it off and slowly pull the batch out in the direction that has the most sticking out of it already. Sorry. It IS a pain but shouldn't damage your printer. If you like my solution, please rate me as it helps me out, too.

The HP Photosmart c3180 prints a color test sheet every time I turn it on even if only to scan a document. How do I prevent it from doing this?

1. Turn on the HP all-in-one.
2. Disconnect the USB cable from the all-in-one.
3. Press the sequence of front panel buttons below to initiate the print cartridge alignment process. The button-press sequence must be completed within ten seconds. It might take several tries to complete the sequence within ten seconds.

a. Press and hold Cancel.
b. While holding Cancel, press On.
c. When the Check Paper and Check Print Cartridge lights begin to blink simultaneously, release both buttons.
d. Press Cancel again.
e. Press Copies.
f. Press Paper Type.
g. Press Color Start Copy.
h. The alignment page will begin printing. If the alignment page does not print, repeat the button-press sequence in this step.

4. Once the alignment page is printed, place the page face down on the scanner glass and press Scan. The alignment is complete when the On light stops blinking. 5. Reconnect the USB cable.

Why can't it print more than one page at the time

You could try to clean the paper feed roller. Please follow these instructions from Canon support: (copy and paste this link into the location bar of your browser)

Scanner won't make copies

Maybe this will hellp others with this, if it's an output issue vs. scnaning, or those w/related Copy problem. I could not Copy without the message about Incorrect Paper Size. I finally found this link which solved that problem AND one of the paper feeding in poorly and at an angle which preceded the error msg by a week, resulted in angled prints on the page.

Paper feed grabs more than one sheet

Try fanning your paper several times. Take that nice neat pile of paper in your hands and wiggle it so that your thumb fans through the edge of the whole stack. Do this on both edges so that the stack of paper is slightly less perfect. You can also gently fold the whole stack slightly in both directions. Do this every time you add fresh paper. It should only take a few seconds.

Button sequence for head test (to look for banding)

Turn the printer off.
Load a sheet of white laser paper.
Press and hold the "Power" & "Ready/FF" buttons at the same time.
Release the "Power" button, and keep pressing the Ready/FF" button.
Right after you release the "Power" button, count 4 seconds, and release the Ready/FF" button.
Immediately, press and release the "Ready/FF" button one last time.
The printer should start printing a series of letters, numbers, horizontal lines and a black solid bar at the bottom of the sheet.
Once this test page is completed, turn the printer off to stop the test.

Paper error

I hope that this can help someone else as it has taken me all day to fix this issue on a C6180 all-in-one machine. I will ignore the normal solutions to a "paper mismatch" error such as your settings not matching your printing media. Obviously, check these first:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com

If your problem is not solved with the above steps, you have an issue with your "spot sensor" and it needs to be calibrated. Instructions:

1. Press * and # at the same time, and then release both keys.
The display reads "Enter Special Key Combo".
2. Press 3, 2, and then 9, releasing each key before pressing the next.
The display window should read "Service: R0622M" with a revision number.
3. Press the right arrow button once.
The display should read "System Configuration".
4. Press Enter or OK.
5. You will be prompted to enter serial number. Do not enter any information
on the unit.
Press the right arrow button until "media sense calibration" appears in the
display.
6. Load Paper into the unit and then press Enter or OK.
7. Media Sense Calibration process will take place.

Could be a number of things. I would try looking in printer settings first. Click on your printer, go to properties and check all settings, it may be set to do this or similar. If no go, try uninstalling and reinstalling it, or just turning it off and unplugging, replugging and turn on again can often reset irregulariites. Also try resetting default printer settings too.
