I have for my broadband 2wire with insufficent ports so i have just purchased Gigaway 8 port and have connected as required.
The problem is i have tried to get Xbox 360 live up and running but nothing is being detected.
I called the store of purchase and they said to go to www.portforwarding and follow instructions. There does not appear to be the info i need. Please help, desperate mum

You need a router. The 2-Wire is just a modem.

The first thing which is important is that 1 cable from you broad band goes to your uplink port of your gigaway router if it doesn't have auto sensing.

The 2Wire modem has his own DHCP server. But Perhaps is the Gigaway 8 is s hub, its the same as connecting various equipment on the same cable. In other words, all the items on the hub is trying to communicates at the same time, in ethernet only one can communicate at a time. So you need a switch. Altough, look similar, the switch do no share the same "cable". It allows all to communicate in a order fashion making a collision free connection.
