Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
Ok, I have an Acer Aspire 5100 and from what i've seen onlline Acers have a habit of doing this ALOT. My problem is that my dvd/cd drive thingy keeps disappearing. It runs fine, but doesn't show up in my computer and programs cant access it. Can you help me? My email is firstname.lastname@example.org Please help if you can.
I had the exact same problem. What it it was (for me) is that the bracket holding the drive in place has two screws that came loose so the drive was drifting around a little bit which caused it to "disappear" sometimes. The good news is that it is an easy fix! Flip over your computer and remove the large cover that is over the fan. I think it is four screws. Once off, you can easily see the bracket that holds the drive in place. Simply remove the screw holding the drive to the frame of the computer and push it out. Inspect the bracket and tighten the screws holding the bracket onto the drive, then put it back in and screw it back to the frame. Problem solved! I apologize if my instructions are not very precise, I did this a few months ago and am doing this post purely from memory. If you have any problems or questions feel free to let me know. Good luck.
