Sounds like you might be missing a driver for the mic. First go to the control panel, device manager, and make sure your built in mic is listed there. Then right click it and click Properties. It should show a driver for it or that the device is working properly. If it says the device is disabled because there is no driver for it, you need to install the driver using your laptop's recovery cd/dvd or you need to go to the HP website to download the driver, then install it by double-clicking the file.
At first let me tell you should have Operating System Vista for the inbuilt mic to work to get the full performance as it has the drivers.
Got to Start>All Programs>Accessories>Entertainmnet>Sound Recorder.
You can check the mic is working or not.
in the sound's and audio device's propertie's box click the voice tab at the top,
under voice recording check to see if the internal mic is checked in the voice recording, default device box,
if it is click the volume box, a new box will appear that say's recording control,
make sure the microphone has a check in the box,
under microphone click the advanced tab,
in the advanced tab make sure the microphone boost has a check in the box,
go back to the sound's and audio device's propertie's box under the voice tab,
at the bottom of the box under voice click on test hardware,
on some built in microphone's you have to talk into the area where the mic is located on the laptop.
if it does'nt help try using the device manager to resolve the sound issue's, check to see if the device is enabled, if it is use the troubleshooting tab to see if the device has a conflict, if it's working properly it will say this device is working properly, or try using the update driver tab.
My laptop model is compaq presario c754tu, I have installed Windows Vista Business, and the audio is working fine, but the internal mic and external microphone both work together........i want to mute the internal mic..... how i can do it ? please reply me on my email id i.e. firstname.lastname@example.org
we have to face it, the microphone feature is not working on XP. i've tried to install it a millionth times, no go. it's working very well on vista. if you want, you can just try to do dual boot. both XP and Vista in one system. just a suggestion though...
