#1 Remove the stand mount off the back of the monitor
#2 Remove the 4 screws in the corners of the monitors
#3 The monitor is now only held together with builtin plastic claw clips. They are connected to the back piece and hook onto the face piece. Use a flat object, I use a small screwdriver, to ress against the clip at the seam of the monitor. There are 3 clips down each short side, and 4 on the top and bottom. You can see a tiny marker showing each clip location at the seam. So press against the clip and gently pry the two pieces open holding it slightly open until you can spring the next clip....and so on, on each clip until it is open.
#4 once open remove the 4 lugs at the video connectors
#5 remove the two sheet metal screws.
#6 sit back realizing those clips hold the plastic together so well that screw are just overkill after that. :P

Found a guitar pick a useful tool in disconnecting plastic claw clips. They are soft enough to not scratch or mar the plastic but stiff enough to shift the claws out of the connector.

My compaq 7500 17" colour monitor has five years' dust inside. Compaq company says do not attempt to open the monitor. I have tried to open it but could not as the back cover seems to have too complex...

You can remove the back panel and use an air jet to clean up the PCB and make it clean. The reason why the standard marking is made not to open is to prevent any accident due to carelesnes or inexperiecned handling.
But do not use brush on the components as it might change settings without your kowledge.

Dead on arrival need to open back cover

emtv_satc852, First visit YOUTUBE and watch some of them being pried apart at their perimeters around the four edges. That's how most of them are opened. Some people use an old CD or DVD disk, while some use thin blade screwdrivers. Try "lcd monitor disassembly" or "lcd monitor repair" on YOUTUBE. Good luck. Hope this helped. 12fixlouie

How to open the back cover of the LCD monitor

Hi..there,
It's seems you got a backling inverter busted. Need to replaced a new one or repaired it. To repaired you need to replaced a bad capacitors with a bulged on top of each caps. Not sure...just replaced all the caps...:) Ok! to open the back cover, there are 2 types to open it. First unscrew the 4 corner screws. If there are some... First type it from the back. After you had removed all the screws. Get a good grip on the bottom R/H side with both hands pulling as hard as you can on the 2 joints. 2nd type from the front bezel. Laid your monitor screen upward and placed a piece of clothes to proctect the screen from smudged. Used 2 hands to lifted up the edged of a bezel...do the same on the other side... After that just removed the screws...and that's how to open the front and back cover... Have a nice day!
