DVD hookup to LCD monitor only appears in black and white!

I have a Samsung series 3 - 330 LCD monitor.  When I hooked up my DVD/VCR player, the picture is in black and white. I have tried everything to get color picture, but I can't.  The DVD/VCR is also Samsung, but is about 6 years old.  How can I get color picture?

Same problem here, except with Samsung T220HD. The screen shows in black and white regardless whether the signal was coming from dvd player or game consoles.

yeah, i have the dvd player in the bottom inputs and the game console
in the inputs directly above (both are supposed to be aux in)... but
only the ones in the first set (aux 1, i think) are in color - not the
2nd... and i switched them to see if it was the input or the game
console and it appears that anything in the bottom inputs will work
fine, but anything in the upper inputs will be b/w and grainy... :(

What kind of cords do I need in order to hook up my vcr & dvd player?

You will need to consult your manuals, or look at the hookup panels on each type of equipment.

RCA Cables will probably be used between the VCR and TV, and they may also be used for the DVD player.

All you need to do is determine what cables will be used based upon what the appliance has to offer, and then procure them and hook the system up. My TV currently uses all three types.

Hitachi 50V500 black and white only

Not sure what kind of video hookup you're using.I'm guessing you are using a red/white/yellow audio/video cord.If you plugged the yellow(ccalled composite) cord into the green of the component video port,it may look like black and white.(this can be a fun prank to play on someone who annoys you).

Trying to hookup old dvd/vcr to new flat screen. have cable box hooked up nad working. dvd/vcr no hdmi connections. what cable hookup do I use

You need to use composite inputs. They have three connections, yellow for video, white for left audio and red for right audio. It does not matter which input you go into. I would imagine there are about 7 separate inputs like the ones I described, just remember which one you use because you will have to set the input to that number to see the VCR/DVD later. Get a phono or RCA patch cable and connect the same colors from out on the vcr/dvd box to in on the tv. Turn everything on, set the tv to the proper input using the menu or input selection and you should be able to view video tapes or dvds. Let me know if you need more help.

Black and white grainy output to new samsung lcd

Your DVD player is using a PAL or NTSC variant which is not supported by your display. Somewhere hidden in the depths of the options in the DVD player should be an option to change the composite output type.

Lcd tv hookup

Ive got 3 samsung tv's (lcd, plasma, DLP) and I use HDMI cables on all of them. Its the only way to get the full potential out of the tv. When you use the red/white/yellow RCA cables the signal is anolog aka "old technology". Component cables are good but HDMI is the best. HDMI is a digital signal and thats what all the components that go with the tv should be run on. If your dvd player does not have an HDMI output I would suggest getting one that has that output. As for the cable box most require you to upgrade to digital cable in order to get one with an HDMI output. If you dont want to spend the money on new components and run what you have now the picture will stay mediocre at best. Good luck hope this helped

DVD and PS2 in Black and White

Hey, I had this problem on Thanksgiving Day, trying to watch a dvd on my mother's HDTV. You should be able to hook up most standard dvd players to hdtvs. First you have 3 cords, mine were red, yellow, and white. The connections go as follows:

HDTV:
Audio| Component. The white cord should be in a white audio slot. The yellow cord should be in a yellow component slot (video) and the red cord should be in a red video component slot labeled Pr/Cr. Make sure you match the component numbers. For instance, if you want to use component one, then hook all of the cords into the slots for component one. Most hdtvs have multiple component hookups ( think multiple "channels" for your game system, dvd player, etc) so it's important that the corresponding cords go to the correct component slots.

DVD:
Match the yellow and white cords to the appropriately colored slots. The red cord should go into the slot labeled component video out Cr/Pr. Not the red audio out. This worked for me. Hope this helps.
