PCV-W510G Power Supply Issue

Sony VAIO PCV-W510G
BIOS hardware monitor reports 12v as 10v and 5v as 4.3, Computer runs dreadfully slow since since this happened. The PSU is model DPS-190BB-1 Rev 00, sony part number is 1-468-772-12. Using a multimeter, I verified that the power supply is at fault rather than MoBo. It's Sony proprietary and I've yet to find anyone that has one for sale. i can't simply use a PSU from another computer as the wiring harnesses are different. Ideas?

It's more like a hybrid laptop/desktop. At first glance the power supply looked like a standard ATX with 20 pin outs. It only has 18 with different color wires. I've determined all but two otherwise I would I have spliced the sony wire harness onto a standard ATX

Will Sony sell you another PSU?

It's a laptop I'll bet they require you to get authorization and return for service. Do so.

Sony vaio pcv-w510g. CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded hardware monitor found an error. Enter power setup menu for details. Also, power button must be depressed...

It sounds like the CMOS battery may be dead. It's a small watch battery inside the computer that maintains your time and date settings even when the computer is turned off and not connected to power. They die after 3-5 years and need to be replaced. They are usually a standard 2032 watch battery that you can get at Radio Shack for $5. The bad news is that the computer will need to be opened up to change it. If you are not comfortable doing that, I'd recommend finding a local technician or shop to do it for you. They can be found pretty easily using google maps or craigslist

How can I verify my suspicions my power supply on my sony vaio PCV-W510G is causing me intermittent issues. In the past I've gotten BSOD's with various and sometimes no error codes, and this week, the...

If you have a multi-meter you can test the leads for +- 5% steady voltage at 12v and 5v. Google the ATX power supply standard for the list of what each wire does. Also there is some software that you might be able to run if your machine is still operational. Short of that you can order a device that connects to your power supply and reports problems with the voltages.
Here is a good tutorial on checking the voltages manually with a multimeter. http://www.bfgpower.com/troubleshooting.html#DMM

The software I use is Speed Fan (look it up in google) but with some motherboards it can be up to 30% off. If you decide to use it, check for variation in the voltage as that is what is causing the lockups. So even if speedfan is reporting a voltage 30% lower than it really is, the votage should stay steady.

Could be bad memory, try and get into the bios and turn off the quick boot feature, this will run more complete tests. Also try booting using KNoppix or Ubuntu, make sure u set to boot from a CD in the BIOS. If Ubuntu or knoppix boot's you'll know it's the Hard disk, if they don't, it may be the RAM,
