Question about Sharp Aquos LC-20B4U-S 20 in. LCD EDTV

1 Answer

Screen has faint "water mark" looking images on both sides of picture

The picture is perfectly watchable. But there are two faint images running vertically on the left and right sides of the picture that are best described as looking like water marks on paper, or what it looks like if you try and remove a stain from clothes by using a dry cleaning solution and it leaves a faint ring. It looks a little like a faint vertical coastline on a map. It's on all channels and inputs. I have moved the set into another room and there is no change. I have cleaned the screen. There is an image flip/rotate feature and the 'stains' do not change position.

Then the only possibilitiy at this point is the LCD panel having some kind of defect in it. Since you flipped the picture and no change it is a permanent mark or failure. Check to see if you have any warranty left as this will be an expensive part if needed. They do list a diffusion sheet part number PSHEP0288CEZZ that will probably be the first layer of the screen assembly.

One yellow, one pink, and one blue spots appeared on my tv screen.

The set if projection which model here is, has arced and now each of the three picture tubes used has a tiny permanent burn mark on its screen.

That is what you are seeing, the set uses three picture tubes with screens like the old tv sets===the coating has been burnt in each, want to prove it, remove rear cover and cover any one of the three lens and that mark on one tube will go a way.

Not fixable.

Black screen

If its LCD get the room very very dark and turn on--with a flashlight near the screen look closely at the screen to see if you see a very faint image of the picture or not---Most LCD flatscreen's (not Plasma) use what is called a back light to light the screen--light source.

If a faint picture can be seen that way the light is not on.

Picture goes black but still has sound

Use a strong light next to the screen and look for a faint image on the screen. If you see a faint picture, your backlight has a problem. Service shop time. Not a simple fix.

NEC plasmasync 42pd3

A Plasma Screen never need 're gassing'.
If you have verified the connections and leads are correct the the up converter is possibly faulty and in need of servicing.
Take it to an authorised NEC repair shop.

Good picture for 30 seconds then screen goes black with a faint ghost of the image

the 12V is for speakers.. the 245bw takes regular 120V AC (same cord as your computer)

the buzzing is annoying, though. i don't know if it's a "feature" or just a side effect.. ie, if i could take the case off and poke around, i would. 4 times out of 5 it's some dumb piece of tin reverberating from a transformer or something..
