I am having a similar problem with my RX-V363 receiver and my Blue Ray player.... no sound surround. I have an optical cable running from my HD TV to the CD port on the back of the receiver and no matter what "Scene" I use, there is no sound coming from the sound surround. After experimenting for about 1 hour, I did get sound surround sound from the speakers, but the volume was set at about -15 which is incredibly loud when I use the tuner.

I have Yamaha v363: (1) No sound from tv where the optical cable is connected to in dtv (middle input). I have assigned the input still nothing. (2) The receiver displays only two front speakers no matter how many different audio setting/options I have chosen. Please help.

Ok, so the reciever wont output sound through HDMI if I want to use my home theater speakers? Does this mean that I have to buy a digital coax or fiber optic cable to run from my monitor to the reciever? Right now, using HDMI cables, I'm getting great sound and picture from the TV itself but no sound through my home theater speakers. Can anyone confirm my questions. Thanks.

This sounds strange, but is true. you need to run your digital audio optical cable from your tv to your receiver (after, of course, connecting tv/receiver via hdmi). so, hdmi from blue ray to rec - hdmi from rec to tv - then optical from tv back to rec. it's round about, but that is how yamaha says (and the only way it works) to do it.

My yamaha receiver RX-V363 keeps shutting off and saying check SP cable

It is one ot two things, the audio output transistors or ic,s are shorted, or the speaker wires in the back of the surround sound are shorting.

Yamaha RX-V365 unable to receive 5.1 audio from TV with HDMI

If you're expecting multichannel sound FROM THE TV instead of from the source you're watching, it's not gonna happen. TV's are notoriously poor sound sources. This one is no different.

Multichannel TV-related audio is best found at its source - cable / sat / dvd / bd....

I run video-related audio from my video sources directly to my TV and their audio directly to my receiver. Specialization yields best results.

I'd recommend skipping the Receiver for video, too, as it adds a lot of opportunity for HDMI-related incompatibilities and sound syncing problems. The more interconnects in the path, the more distorted it will become and the more opportunities for problems. Plus you can bypass the receiver and listen to lo-fi programming like news and weather through the TV's speakers if you like. Save a buck on electricity.

Just curious, which HDMI on the receiver is connected to your TV? Input or Output?

This note is on Page 11 of the manual:

Audio signals input at the HDMI jack are not output from any speaker terminals but output from the connected video monitor. To enjoy the sound from speakers connected to this unit,
-- make an analog or digital connection besides the HDMI connection (see page 13).
-- mute the volume on the connected video monitor

================
"Check SP cable." -- The unit is perceiving a short circuit. Are your speaker impedances sufficiently high? Disconnect the Front Right speaker and try raising the volume again. The speaker may be blown or the cable shorting.

I own a Yamaha RX-v365 and i cant figure out how to connect my PS3 to the surround sound. For some reason the HDMI cables wont work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

As above :
Connect PS3 via HDMI to DTV/IN, Connect HDMI from out to TV's HDMI/IN. Connect TV's Optical out to amps DTV/Optical in.

2X HDMI cables and one Optical are required.

I have the V363 but yours looks the same.

Enjoy great sound :)

OH: choose the DTV input then stereo and then dolby etc .. cheers

I'm working on one right now. It seams that you are not selecting to correct program for the dialog. I would not use music enhancement on dialog content.

Wii to RX-V363?

Hi..
If youre talking about the set of 3 A/V plugs in the front then you need to connect to the Video Out (yellow) plug in the back that says something like "Front Video" or "video 3" out. Connect that to the display.

No audio after hooking up RX-V363 to TV monitor (from cable box )

The HDMI on the RX-v363 does not pass the audio.  You need to either connect an optical or digital cable from your audio source.  If it is a cable box or DVD player there should be audio outputs in addition to HDMI

Having trouble connecting my blue ray and tv to my yamaha receive and surround system

Must be an HDMI ?

If yes use the HDMI DVD input on your receiver ( from the Blue Ray using a HDMI cable )
Then use an HDMI cable from receiver to TV.

That should work for image. Sound would only work directly from TV, to have sound on receiver:

Use either optical or coax cable to direct digital sound from blueray to receiver.
Best is optic, depends on blueray or cable availability ... Coax = RCA cables @ 75 Ohms, use of a spare RGB would work find (using only one of three color available let's say using Red only) or try with any RCA cable.

direct cable from blueray to receiver ( Digital inputs at far left looking back of receiver num 7 in owner manual, choose DVD )

If no sound from receiver check Audio select from option menu ( set to auto )

Any specific question about this procedure ?

or guess you already found out,

Enjoy :-)

Yamaha reciever rx-v363

Thats because if you look in the owner's manual, it declares the fact that it will only broadcast sound from hdmi to monitor not speakers. For sound out of speakers need to connect additional audio cable.
