Protect mode is on my stereo i cant do anything with it

  • Anonymous Feb 23, 2009

Try disconnecting all the speaker wires and turn the unit on, if the protect mode comes back it is an internal problem with the unit, if when no speakers are connected the protect mode does not appear then you know there is a short in one of the speakers or wire. Connect each speaker one at a time checking the unit after every connection to see if the protect mode appears. If it appears after connecting one speaker you know either that wire or speaker is the problem.

SOURCE: Protect mode Kenwood KDC MP438U in dash reciever

Anytime there is a short circuit or your battery down low enough you will recieve this signal. If you press the little "reset button" using a small pin or screwdriver your unit should reboot without the "PROTECT" signal. If seeing this "PROTECT" sign is a result of jumping your car, this will fix it. If the signal persists, then there is still a short circuit and you need to check your connection with the battery. Most likely it is touching the chasis or some othere metal.

On my kenwood kdc mp438u i tried everything it said to do but it keep saying protect

Could be a short circuit on your speaker output, try disconnecting all 4 speaker wires and then power up. Otherwise its the audio amplifier circuit that needs to be replaced ( audio IC )

I got a Kenwood KDC-MP438U and its stuck on protected mode

Protected mode means that there is a speaker wire that is grounding out on the chassis, another wire or another wire. Check all the wire connections to make sure there is no loose wire that may be getting grounded out. After it's insulated properly and reconnected, hit the reset and you'll be back in business. k

"PROTECT" is constantly displayed on the screen of my kdc-mp438u

You need to unplug the unit from the back and find the problem. Usually, it is almost always your speaker connections. Once you find the problem within the speakers, plug it back in and it resets it.

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!
