Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, the display message "init" of course would refer to initializing and therefore is a firmware issue. Offhand, I doubt if this is user fixable not unless you can "jar" the system into booting completely.

You may want to try and see it the Denon DVM-715 if at all would accept init commands. The following may or may not "jar" the unit as it was intended for a region free hack of another model, but you could give it a try if only to determine if the firmware is still running:

  • Ensure there is no disc in the player, if there are and could not be removed, still follow below steps.
  • Power off using the front panel On/Off button (not standby) or merely unplug, wait 5 minutes, then plug back in
  • Press and hold Open/Close, Play and Skip Reverse (I<<).
  • Keep the above buttons held and Power-up the player using the On/Off button or plugging back in, holding the above buttons until the player's name disappears from the front panel.
  • Wait until the player finishes LOADING and the front panel of the player shows 0:00:00.
  • On the remote handset, press in sequence; 7 3 1 9 4 6 2 8
  • The unit should enter standby mode. On the front panel of the player, press the Standby button to turn the player back on.
  • To confirm the update, press on the front panel Stop and Skip Forward (>>I). The front panel should briefly display “Region_Ax” where x is the original region number. If not, then repeat the process 1-7 above.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

Sir,

Connection of the power cord is faulty. Check the insertion of the power supply cord plug.

Preset Init : Set all the preset data back to the factory defaults.
To clear the PRESET data, push the PARAMETERS knob.
“Preset Int?” flashes on the character display.
Push the PARAMETERS knob again.
“Preset Initial!” is displayed on the character display while data clearing.
Once clearing is completed, “Complete!” is displayed.

thanks

You’ll rarely need to "initialize the microprocessor" under normal operating conditions. In a few cases, the microprocessor will temporarily freeze or "lock up" just as your home computer does. When this happens, just follow the guidelines in the back of your owner’s manual to "unlock" the microprocessor and restore normal operation. (This is directly comparable to rebooting your computer. It’s an electronic wake up call to your unit’s temporarily paralyzed microprocessor "brain.") If you experience some unusual behavior -- a channel that’s suddenly silent, "forgotten" level adjustments, some eccentricities in your unit etc. -- you may need to reset the microprocessor. Of course, you should check all connections carefully first. But if you’ve eliminated these items as a source of potential problems, you may need to go through the initialization process.)
Initialization is easy. Please refer to your owners manual for instruction on reseting the microprocessor as each unit may have its own individual protocal for reset.
What causes these problems? Several things can -- a jolt of static electricity, a current surge through an antenna input, etc. But don’t worry, the microprocessor is well shielded from any permanent effects.
When you do initialize the microprocessor, remember that this erases any setup instructions you may have previously programmed into the unit. However, the on-screen menu will quickly get you through a new setup. And, if you write down your preferred settings BEFORE you reset your unit’s microprocessor, you’ll have an even easier job!
If in the event you do intialize microprocessor reset please refer to your owners manual for instructions on setup..

Init mean initializing. Make sure there's no CD or DVD inside the tray. Unplug the power to the unit for 3-5 minutes. When you plug it back in, hold the power button for 5 seconds then release.

Hi,
Just to clarify, is this a new player? Just wondering if it has a transit switch on the bottom? The transit switch would just keep everything locked while the machine is being transported..

Okay, in the user manual, it says to Initialize the Microprocessor:
    1. Switch off the power unit using
    2. Hold the following and , and press .
    3. Check that the entire display is blinking at an interval of about 1 second, and release your fingers from the 2 buttons.
    The microprocessor will be initialized.

This will reset all the default settings.

    Hope this helps

    Oh sorry, mate, my mistake..
I have just found a user manual on www.retrevo.com, but you'll have to sign up for the site to download it. It only says turn off for 15 seconds and plug back in to reset.. not much help. It also mentioned checking the cables, and changing the batteries in the remote..
Maybe you should have a look at the manual, you might get some ideas..
Apologies for my initial mistake.. Hope you get sorted out..

Protection

I just had this same problem and called Denon. I was told to unplug the unit and unplug all attached to it. Then, push both the tuning buttons at the same time (both the up and the down) hold them in while plugging the Denon back to the electrical. Watch the front of the Denon and see 5 cycles flash on the tuner display and then let go of the tuner buttons. Then plug things back in.
That helped the protect thing for minutes. I redid it several times.
No good. One of the channels blew out. I would now get rid of it for parts. I have not had luck with Denon.

Try plugging is a set of headphones and then unplugging them. These models have a problem with the headphone jack thinking that there is headphones plugged in even when there isn't. This will mute all audio to the speakers.

Denon AVR-1908 won't power on

Are you getting a standby light at all? Is it flashing? Do you here a click when you plug the unit in? If the answer is no to all of these then you blew a fuse. If you do have soome sort of standby light, then your set is in protect mode. More than likely for a blown channel. If no lights, but you ar egetting a click, you could have a bad transformer. Use a DVM and see if it is open or not. Good luck
