Question about Frigidaire AEQ6000ES Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Aeq6000 won't turn off

My Affinity dryer works and dries just fine. This afternoon, however, it decided to not turn off. Unless the door is open (door switch disengaged, to be specific), the drum continues to turn. I haven't noticed it giving any heat if the dryer is otherwise supposed to be off. Pressing cancel does nothing (unless a cycle was running, then the heat will turn off, but the drum will continue to spin). I have unplugged the machine, but this didn't rest anything; the drum continues to turn if plugged in. Any suggestions on what to do? Other than keep the breaker off unless actually drying?

Yeah, I was afraid that was the problem. But, in the interest of trying to save money, I'd like to troubleshoot other things first. Where are the fuses/relays so I can take a look at those (is there a decent wiring diagram anywhere online?) Thanks for the help so far.

    Well, it's been a while.

The place where I bought the dryer spent a long time looking for a replacement machine for me, but acceptable stock did not come in for several weeks. Fantastic job by them in honoring their warranty, btw; were willing to repair or replace as I saw fit.

Anyway, I convinced them to let me just switch out my possibly bad control board for one from a working machine. They agreed (again, great people)

Anyway, when I removed my control board, an inspection revealed some broken solder joints. I resoldered them and the machine has been working fine ever since.

This has to do with the control board failure. The control board runs every aspect of the dryer and will need to be replaced. Here is the new control board.

SOURCE: Drum runs continuously

Sounds like you have a shorted relay in the door switch. If you know a good electrician or repair man I'd give them a call.

SOURCE: Fridgidaire Dryer runs constantly when plugged in

You have a couple different options. One is to check the timer and make sure that it is working correctly. Second thing is to check the computer and the fusees to make sure all is well.

SOURCE: dryer will not stop running

Your machine may have a feature called wrinkle guard or wrinkle shield, which basically keeps tumbling the clothes without heat to prevent wrinkles from setting in. Turn that feature off and see if that does the trick.

There is a reset on some models by unplugging the appliance and waiting a couple minutes then plug back in make sure timer is on off position and pulled out. You can also open and close the door just alil bit 6 times within 12 seconds while machine is plugged in. But I think you should test ur thermostats and heating element with a multi meter for continuity? A worse case may be that the motor has burned a winding and or ur ur power outlet is only giving half the current as the dryer uses 120 to run and the other 120 to operate the heating? thus if u only get 120 instead of 240 volts you will get an appliance that runs but does not heat.

How do you open the Frigidaire affinity dryer bc i think the belt is broken

If the belt is broken dryer will not tumble, you can turn drum and should be resistance to turn, if turns easy then belt is broken. This is a difficult repair. If you can't see how to open dryer you won't be able to replace belt.

When push start it makes a click but does not start. got power. belt good.

Sounds like a bad thermal shut off maybe? or the push start swtich is gone bad? can check these with a multimeter. for continuity may also want to check the door switch as this can also shut off the cycle and all u will get is a click or nothing

Steam valve won't shut off

If the water sprays after the dry cycle has completed and you have to physically have to turn the tap off, then you need to replace the water inlet valve on the unit. Here is a link to the valve.

When your dryer won't start, it could be a number of problems from a broken door latch or start switch to an exhaust duct blocked by lint. It could even be a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse.

The first step in troubleshooting any electrical appliance is to ensure that it is plugged in and receiving power. While dryer plugs do not come loose easily, it can happen.

For more troubleshooting tips, read Dryer won't start for possible causes, signs to look for and things you can do. I hope this helps!

My Dryer won't stop drying until I open the door.

If it does this in a Timed Dry setting the timer is bad. If it does this in an Auto dry setting it could be a bad moisture sensor or a bad timer.

Fridgidaire dryer aeq6000es. won't start, beeps 3 times with error message dr

This code means the dryer door is not closed or the door safety switch is not making a good connection at times. The dryer door safety switch is in the opening of the door and when the door is closed the switch button is depressed. If the control circuit board doesn't get a signal that the dryer door switch is closed it will not allow the dryer to start.. Try firmly closing the dryer door a 2nd time when this happens, if that cures the problem you are good to go, if that doesn't cure the issue you must remove the front panel of the dryer and replace the switch. If you need a switch they are available from Sears Direct for about $15.00 Below is a picture of the switch that most likely used in your model and make, the button on top is what the dryer door depresses when closed..

Listen, when you push the start button to hear a low hum, if you do hear this it maybe that your belt is broken. This is an involved job but can be done if you are handy.
