Question about Sony SA-VA10 System

1 Answer

Sony SA-VA10 I have a Sony SA-VA10 that I bought in 1996. I was recently robbed and the robbers destroyed and took off with the custom 13-pin cable connecting the L and R main speakers. Since it's custom I've been having a terrible time finding one to replace it. I hate to just chunk the whole system since it still works fine...

Hi, Have you been able to locate the cable for your Sony speaker system? Thats a shame that they would take just the cable. Anyways, I have the sa-va10 model just like you. I just upgraded to a new sound system. And I have the cable. Tho, I m sure somewhere on the net, like ebay, amazon or even Sony should be able to help you. I would call them. Those speakers are not that old, and maybe Sony still has a ton of those cables in stock. Esp. since the system is only around 14 years old. Relatively thats still pretty new.

Hi all. Where can i order/buy a 13 pin cable (system cable) connecting the dvd player to the subwoofer? Samsung ht tx500 home theatre system.

Look in the manual for replacement part numbers - then google-it to find one.
Otherwise, I did find an ebay listing. search for "samsung subwoofer 13-pin" - 1st listing...
It looks correct, but I certainly can't guarantee it will work.

I have a Sony SA-VE815ED SYSTEM. I have not used it in ten years. Can I hook it up to a HD TV?? Do I need a receiver?? How do I use the HDMI connections on video games, TV, etc?

The SA-VE815ED is a set of speakers. You'll need an receiver (with an amplifier either built in or separate) to connect the speakers to the TV. Depending on the receiver, you may be able to connect the HDMI cables from any set top box to the receiver and then have an HDMI out cable to the TV. (In this configuration, the TV speakers will not get the audio track. So you will want to ensure that the TV's speakers are off and the receiver is on when you play games.)

Alternatively, plug the HDMI cables directly into the TV and then connect the TV's audio out to the receiver. (Depending on the TV, your may need to get a receiver with digital audio inputs.)

Retrevo has the manual for the SA-VE815ED here: http://www.retrevo.com/support/Sony-SA-VE815ED-Speaker-Systems-manual/id/23108ci362/t/2/ . You'll need to enter a code to download the PDF.

I hope this helps.

I have a sony sava d900 and im guessing i put positives and negatives wrong and the speakers stopped working all i heard was a pop and smoke out the back???? please help

Reversing positives and negatives does no electrical harm. It only affects the perceived imaging if it's different than the other speakers.

TOUCHING or shorting them together or to something is a whole 'nuther matter.

You blew something up. Try it with no speakers or wires attached then take it to the doctor.

I have a pair of SONY SAVA-500 speakers I have had 5 years and have lost the the square 4 pin wire that connects them. 3 round and 1 square. Any input on these would be gtreatly appreciated!

Google Sony sava 500 look at images it always shows the 4 pin connector the reason for not leaving a link is that everytime I look for that part someone else stocks the part it runs around 35 bucks shipping inc.

Ihave a sava-500 home theater speaker system i dont have the cord to connect the 2 tower speakers will this affect the sound from the main speaker using the av input

With not all the speakers hooked up, it will definitly effect the sound. The unit is designed to channel different sounds to certain speakers. That's what makes you feel like "you are there" If you have lost the cords to the tower speakers, you can buy replacements. Go to where you bought the unit, a Radio Shack, or other store that sells home theater systems. Enjoy your system like it was designed .

JVC 8 pin pinout - speaker cable

Looking at the connector, there are 3 rows of pins.
Starting with the first row closest to the alignment mark:
[Power On],[Center Speaker],[Sub Woofer]
[Surround Right],[Speaker Ground],[Surround Left]
[Right],[Left]

If you are trying to connect two JVC units, you will need an 8-pin cable that has the SAME pins connected on each side. You will need to test this using a multimeter set to ohms or 'connectivity'.
There are other 8-pin cables out there like the one for apple networking, but they use a crossover pinout where pin 1 on one end = pin 3 on the other end. This is bad. JVC needs pin 1 to = pin 1.

This is a standard connector/pinout setup that JVC uses, so connecting a TH-C3 to a TH-C50 works fine. There is a bunch of intermixing that you can get away with. The only thing to keep an eye on is the power in watts that one unit sends and the other recieves. Worst case is that the speakers are quiter than expected or that you can turn the volume up so high that it can damage the speakers. In all cases, you should get desired volume somewhere on the dial.

If you are trying to wire the speaker set custom, then you will need to take note that an '8-pin' connector is actually a 9-wire connector. Along with the above pinout, you will need to add Case Ground, which is the metal circle that surrounds the pins. To make the speakers turn on, you will need to apply 12v to the Power On pin and ground the 12v source to the Case Ground outer ring.
The system takes 3 to 4 seconds to fully turn on after this connection is made. Speakers should be wired using the center pin for speaker ground and each other pin respectful to each speaker.

Connecting ipod

Yes you can connect your i-pod to your sa-ht 930. You can buy a connection at Walmart for $5 bucks or you can go to Tareget and buy a monster connection for about $25 bucks. I bought the monster connection and works great. All you have to do is connect it to the AUX in the back to the white and red jack in put. Once you connect it change the input selector to AUX and you're ready to go.
