Missing dvd drive

So a while back i had installed daemon tools to use with mounting files.. however i noticed one day when i went to burn a cd that it said i had to drive. Somehow all record of my dvd drive had been removed from my comp... no drivers.. no trace at all. I removed daemon tools and installed various fix downloads to bring back the drives but nothing worked. Today i actually redownloaded daemon tools and for some reason my real cd drive appeared. however now my comp thinks its just a dvd drive and not a dvdrw... any ideas??

Re: missing dvd drive

I'm not familiar with daemon tools, but check what Device Manager (right click My Computer, Manage, then Device Manager)things about your drive. If it shows up incorrectly there, try deleting it, then rebooting or doing a "scan for hardware changes". And it's always a good idea to go to the manufacturer's website and checking for updated drivers, I've noticed especially with laptops, they come out ALL the time. Good luck!

Can I reset it back to factory setting with out a CD or DVD

If the restore partition is still on the hard disk then press Alt and F10 just before it boots. Otherwise try T8 just before it boots. If this fails try Creating a System Rescue USB drive (Note: An alternative to the spyware-laden Daemon-tools for mounting the ISO file as a virtual CD-ROM is Virtual CloneDrive). If you have trouble with the System Rescue CD, you can try some other distros.
Reboot the netbook and go into the Acer BIOS settings. Change the boot settings to check USB first. Plug in your System Rescue stick, and restart the netbook.
Run "wizard", and launch gtparted (icon towards the lower-left of the screen).
Delete partition 2, create a new one, then reformat it as NTFS
Mark partition 1 as bootable (right-click, edit flags). Remove USB drive.
Reboot into the Acer System Restore software. Choose to restore the system.
Plug the System Rescue USB drive back into the Acer netbook.
Reboot into the System Rescue CD/USB, go back into gparted, and flag the restored partition 2 as bootable.
Remove USB flash drive and reboot.
Hope that helps.

How can i install windows to a laptop that has a bad cd/dvd rom drive?

Go here download the program
You must have at least a 2GB flash drive, mount the flash drive using daemon tools. Then copy the the install disk to your flash drive. Then power on your computer with the bad dvd drive and go into BIOS and in the BOOT OPTIONS you will need to set the number one spot as USB then dvd (even though it doesn't work) then your HDD. Save the changes you just made to your BIOS and EXIT. This will reboot your computer and should boot the installation of windows from your USB drive. Hope this helps, let me know if you need more help or run into questions along the way.

You just need to click here.
this page will direct you to the download page of your antivirus.
Download 32 or 64 bit whatever you want.
Install it on your computer and enter your key on cd

This was a common or normal man's approach.

There is also an advanced approach to this problem bit tricky for layman's in this field.
there are various image mounting tools such as Daemon Tools Lite or Daemon Tools Pro.Choice for the product depends whether you go for pro or not. These create a virtual drive in your pc which is a dvd drive(note this is virtual)
Now comes the very important and interesting part.
also install daemon tools on your friends pc and make an image of your cd from friends pc.
Carry this image in a flash drive and paste in your pc.
now open daemon tools and mount this image.
Mounting image means your compurer will assume that now have another dvd drive and this has your av cd inserted into it.
believe can't get better than this

this approach is better because this overrides any sort of problem reguarding key if it happens.
moreover it's excellent for playing games as cd is always unscratched.

That ends all.
Enjoy your antivirus guy......

Boot Disc's Not reading, Dvd rom help? or Xp/vista help?

How did you made it boot to the disc? if you used keystrokes to do so, it would be better if you go into your BIOS and set the boot priority making the dvd drive as priority and see if it is gonna work that way. If it does'nt you need to be concerned about the drive itself, it might be having problems as well.

DVD/CD Rom no longer reads cd or dvd - restore drive

Here's a Fixya:

How old is the notebook? There is 3 possibilities to get it fixed:

1. It might be the CD you're trying. Did you try another CD? or DVD to see if it does the same?
-If yes you might have the read/write head dirty and all you have to do is buy a lens cleaner follow the instructions and clean the drive. This is worth a try.
- If you are referring to CD's that you are BURNING with the same drive and the drive would not read it. Then most probably you did not get a brand of CD's / DVD's which are suitable for your drive. Check your drive's laptops manual to see the reccomended media.

2. Upon doing this check if you installed any software which might affect the drive. Such programs include. ASPI dirvers Daemon Tools copiers such as Nero and Alcohol 120% or others such as Clone CD. If so uninstall the offending program and reboot to see what happens. Sometimes even games might cause the problem.

3. Is the PC / Laptop old? As i did not have any details. And if it made any "funny noises" most probably its a hardware problem and it compromises reliability so if you tried all the above. You best bet is to check for a replacement drive. They do not cost much.

Hope that this Fixya helped you in any way.

Eject button on Vaio won't work

t seems like people are having problems with getting the Fn Brightness and CD Eject Keys working when installing XP.

The following files and install method works here:

01. Install SFEP [AR51] (Right Click - Install SonyNC.inf)

02. Install Sony Shared Library [AR51] and Restart when prompted

03. Install Sony Utilities DLL & Settings Utility Series [BX4]

04. Install VAIO Event Service. Select Custom and Check VESUnique and Sound [BX4]

05. Copy AR51 Vista VESConfig.ini (from attached zip file) to folder C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Event Service

06. Start - Run services.msc

07. Find Vaio Event Service in the Services list and Restart the Service.

Your Fn and EJECT Buttons should now work.
