Question about Cannon Canon i960 Photo Printer

1 Answer

Greyscale printing Using Canon w7200 wide format printer for greyscale printing produces a (normally) blue/purple shaded greys. ie printer is rendering greys by printing in colour. I used to be able to select monochrome in print driver and result would be greys would be printed only with black ink which produces a nice result. I have had to reload drivers due to PC failure and now can't make printer print greys using black only. I suspect something to do with color profiles.

Re: greyscale printing

You may well be on the right track Certainly nothing to do with the printer as such It will only squirt the inks it is told to. So check the printer software[drivers] for starters- Is it possible you have the latest -check makers web site. This may also apply to your graphics card/image editor. Do ensure all the latest[current drivers and patches] are loaded. For example I Paint Shop Pro- Coral will sent updates from time to time some of which seem to be almost as big as the original program. If I have occasion to reinstall or repair the prog- I must always remember to reload the updates.

How do I print when I have only black ink?

Depending on the printer you have, some printers will not work without the color ink installed, even if you only want to print black. In most cases printing in greyscale will actually use more ink as the printer will mix colors to make shades of grey. Look for a driver settting of black only, but likley you will have to shell out for color cartridges.

Hi my plotter always print a blue color on all pages.for each kind i print i have it has no differences.does any one knows about my problem? my plotter model is Canon W7200 thanks best regards

Try printing the Nozzle Check pattern. Check if colors are printed correctly. If not, try Printhead Cleaning A first then check again the Nozzle Pattern. If there's a small changes to the pattern, try Printhead Cleaning B. If problem persist, try changing the Printhead.

Canon W7200 stays in initialising mode at startup. is memory bad?

From what I have discovered having had a total head failure, which the printer did not report, even though the prints were heavily lined, the printer appears to halt on any task until the problem is fixed

Speaking to a very helpfull service engineer, he advised that in all his years working on wide formats, Canons only have two problems, dirt or head failure. Never has he seen a card or any other electronic problem

My guess is that the head has failed, even though it doesn't report it.

Go into service mode during start-up and see if any of the self test functions work, fan tests etc. If they look like they are about too, but nothing happens, then I would look to the print head.

Prints light purple instead of grey

I think your Black Cartridge is Empty. Check it and replace it with the new one.

Your Printer is trying to produce Black Colour from your Colour Cartridge with a mix of Cyan, Magenta and Yellow.

Colours are not true, grey is brown

You are getting leakage from one color cartridge to another. Do deep cleaning and run nozzle check. You may have been using non-Cannon inks. They can corrode the ink cartridge seats due to inferrior quality ink. You may need to replace the print head. Check out Cannon web site under this printer support. Print head is in the $50 neighborhood.

Canon large format W7200

Check the capabilities of the printer in the manual. But in general- to get black general purpose printers print all colours. This is the normal way to get a black black in the CYMK process. Some printers offer black only as a setting or a special black/monochrome ink. Some specialist ink suppliers[Lycos] will offer a 'black set' that is where the colour carts are replaced with a shades of grey. Where does your printer come in this scheme of things also take a look here
