Question about Heating & Cooling

Rinnai Integrity 2635 demand hot water unit ignites, runs for a minute or 2, then flame goes out for about 20 secs then reignites and cycle continues. No error is displayed on the remote when this happens but there is a stored error code 12 logged.

Yes it is the igniter its weak and can not stay within normal range to stay on allowing the flame to stay on.

Rinnai infinity standing in the shower and it suddenly goes cold for a few seconds no other water been run in the house or it goes cold and goes to a trickle then comes on again. Could the heat ex changer...


We are a bit confused by the device that you are using to heat the Hot water with- Is it an instantaneous HW heater?--
They are pressure sensitive-- Could it be, that your water pressure drops momentarily, (which causes the instantaneous heater to shut down its flame-- and you get a pulse of Cold water.)

If your hot water is a tank-- It is possible that something is cycling your hot water away-- like rinse pulses on the Washing machine)-- or your dishwasher?

I have a Bosch Aqua star 240 fx tank less water heater. The unit will ignite and run for 5 sec (Flame visible through window) the flame goes out and it reignites and runs for 5 more seconds and again goes...


It sounds to me like you tried about everything I would. So I think you're already thinking about what I would do next. Try the flame sensor,and as last resort check all connection . Remove wires one by one clean and reattach. If all else fails change cotrol board. It's very hard to fix when it's not consistent. Good luck. Thanks

Boiler cuts off after abt 20 secs of igniting,hot water goes cold then reignites ,hot water for 15-20 secs then repeat goes cold, burner goes off then rignites...ect was told ntc thermister problem but...


Yes usually it is indeed the thermostat, or Thermistor, all part of the control circuit. You did not indicate what type of setup you have. I suggest you Google for a thing called a service manual. This will aid in diagnosis, and repair of your system.

Rheem powervent ignites then goes out, electronic ignition.


Sounds like a bad thermocouple. This part sends a millivolt signal to keep the gas valve open but shuts it off when it cools - or if something goes wrong with the ignighter - to prevent fires. It's easy to replace and not super expensive. See your local Rheem dealer.

II would think that the unit is going out on hil imit because there is not enough psi on the water coming in.Is this unit on well water or city?If it on well water you have run some cleaner in it every six months.L on the side of the heat or inside and there a toll free number to call talk to a tech.

this might actually be normal, whats the complaint??? to long to dry clothes maybe 2-3 cycles??? would be a common complaint. in which id check to make sure vent is not clogged anywhere, especially where exiting the home if he venting is ok id replace the coils atop the gas valve, possible and common for that matter that after running for 20-30 min they do not reopen and dont allow flem to reignite... part number 279834 retails for about $20 easy enough repair.... reason for flame to go on and turn off after only 30 secs is that in an empty dryer 30 secs of heat may be enough to satisfy the thermostat, that's alot of heat for an empty dryer, it would remain on for longer with a load of wet clothes absorbing the heat

My bosch 21E (infinity style) hot water system has an intermittant fault where the flame does not appear to be able to stay on (or properly light). Once water is started to the unit I can hear the ignitor...


moisture is getting into circuit board, usaully this sealed in a jell which keeps the board protected from any kind off dust,moisture etc which would comprimise the thinking side off the unit. a bosch engineer should be able to do a diagnostics on site.

Rinnai Propane tankless Water Heaters R85e-1


Piping of these heaters in tandem is critical. Specified by Rinnai in their design manual, the cold water should be piped to both water heaters with a back-flow presenter installed before the first heater. The hot out piping should be "Tee-d" together and going to your hot water needs.

If piped as per the manual, try turning the water off to only one of the units. Turn on a hot water tap and see if the unit stays on without interruption. Then try the same on the second unit. You may find that one unit has a bad flow control, which is shutting off the flow of water.
