Question about Linksys Rangeplus Wireless Pc Adapter

Wireless connection problems

I have a Dell Inspiron 1200 with a Linksys Rangefinder Plus wireless adapter (WPC100), AT&T broadband with a 2WIRE 3800 gateway, which is connected to a desktop computer (gateway). Tha desktop works fine, the wireless is a constant problem. Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it works for one user and not another. There does not seem to be any kind of pattern to the problem. Any suggestions? It constantly says in the status for the wireless connection: "acquiring network address". Sometimes using the Monitor software that came with the adapter works, sometimes it doesn't. I've run out of ideas! Help me please!

Thanks vedhick, for taking the time to answer my post. Since I posted however, I have tried all the things you suggested, along with a few more (um, unconventional, shall I say?) attempts. I finally ended up getting rid of the apparently rotten Linksys software that WAS (not) controlling it, and managed to get Windows to configure it. (I had tried that before, and it didn't work, got an error message that I might need a Microsoft update--which I looked up and couldn't tell if it was safe to install!). And it has been working like a charm ever since! I found a website unrelated to Microsoft OR Linksys and it gave the procedure to have Windows configure it, and wow, it worked. I don't think there has been one time it hasn't connected, and now my family members can quit bugging me to get them connected! My advice to anyone with Linksys equipment: DITCH THEIR SOFTWARE and stick with Windows. And by the way, I have Windows XP Home Edition, SP2. And that is where I'm staying! Thanks!

Hi..
you can try updating the drivers for the wireless card and also you can change the wireless channel for the router....downl below is the link to download the drivers...
http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WPC100/download
to change the channel number you need to go to the desktop which is connected to the 2wire router, click on start, run, cmd and hit enter, once you are in this black box type in ipconfig and hit enter, out of these results search for deault gateway it shuld be like 192.168.1.254...make a note of this numbers.Open up a browser page and type the numbers in the address box it should open 2wire box,you will see may tabs click on top click on the tab that says home network,in the page you will see another option that says wireless settings, click on wireless settings, once you click this tab you will be told to put in the password, put in the password that is generally the word password or admin, once you are through you will be navigated to the wireless settings page you will see channel number it might be 6 change it to eihter 9 or 11 as these are least channel where there will be least interference..once you change it to these number click on save settings..now try connecting to the network and check if it is working properly now....
best of luck.....try out the steps incase you are stuck let me know for any clarification

That won't work because your old sbc wireless router 2wire gateway is also a modem. You need a plain router for Time Warner. Try Linksys router.

Linksys wireless adapter not being recognized by 2wire wireless

1. uninstall the WLAN monitor from add/remove programs.
2. restart computer. it should say "found new hardware" (for the WMP54GS)
3. insert the installation CD for the WMP54G, but make sure that you do not install the WLAN monitor. just install the drivers for the card.
Then let windows control the wireless.
