Bush Digital Set top Box came with no instructions or warranty

It's a new Bush DFTA5A/SAA digital set top box and comes with a cable with 3 plugs at each end - one each in red, white and yellow. But the box had no manual or warranty. As I also have a DVD/VCR attached to the TV, I'm not sure where to put what and am not very well, to fiddle around trying things out. The Dick Smith Electronics shop said I'd find the manual and warranty on the internet, but nothing's showing up! Can you help? Be most appreciated, Thanks, Marliene.

Re: Bush Digital Set top Box came with no instructions or...

Continued. The first one had no manual because it had been returned by a customer who didn't like it. Dick Smith had just placed it back on the shelf. It had many problems including an input signal level showing as too high all the time although the info button said signal strength = 56% The second unit another DFTA5A would sometimes not remember channels that were programmed into it even though it would say "SAVE" & accept the save. Also when a channel did go in using manual tuning other channels would disappear. When you tuned say channel 7 sometimes 5 different channel 7's would come up but most wouldn't work. You could delete the ones that didn't work but the channels you wanted would disappear as well. On auto tune it would not find channels 7, 9 , 10 but they were easy to find when I did a manual tune. Maybe one problem is that it isn't a High definition set top box. Anyway the store gave me my money back and I will look for another brand that is better. My advice is to avoid this brand of set top box. By the way Dick Smith were not that pleased to refund my money.

My channel 7 keeps freezing and comes up with no signal sometimes for days when it's though my my bush digital recorder box. But when it's just though the tv channel 7 works fine. What's going on??

Different digital boxes and tv's have different levels of RF gain. Some need more signal and some need less to work efficiently.
Possibly your Bush pvr needs a much stronger signal than your tv so the available signal is permanently on the threshold of reception and atmospheric conditions will some of the time reduce the available signal when reception will become impossible for the box but still be above the threshold for the tv set.

Modern Bush is not reknown for being a high quality brand and the purchasers of budget brand pvr's often discover reception or performance problems in fringe signal areas. Because a single aerial must receive a very wide range of frequencies it will be more efficient for some channels than others and so one channel could be a fringe channel and another channel produce a very strong frequency.

The signal strength and quality can be checked for each channel by selecting options in the menu in order to check this theory.

The problem might be solved by replacing the Bush pvr with a premium brand or replacing your aerial for a more efficient type. One of my friends had five different boxes before he gained a satisfactory performance and another friend three boxes and still has problems.
My installation has a new high gain wideband aerial on top of my 3 storey house and a distribution amplifier in the loft to keep the input lead short and the whole lot connected by very good quality double-wrapped co-ax.
I had to add different amounts of attenuation for each box or tv set but in spite of the signal being on average too strong and needing attenuating there are still channels for which the aerial is not as efficient and providing only a weak signal.

Would like to record from my tv to my magnavox dvd/vcr combo box

If I understand your request right, You do not have cable or satellite box.
You can not record from your TV. You use the TV as a monitor from the dvd/vcr combo box. What the box receives is what shows on the TV. So you will have to have a digital convertor hooked to the (antenna in) dvd/vcr combo box, (antenna out to the tv antenna in) Depending on the antenna you are using that is on the other end of your cable-in coax connection this will hook to your antenna in on the digital convertor box. If your cable is hooked up and operating correctly and directly to the tv that is digital ready you probabbly have a good picture. When the vhf/uhf signal was transmitted you could go from the dvd/vcr to the tv with no problem. But now that the signal is digital and the tv is set for digital the dvd/vcr will not pass a digital signal to the tv. Best suggestion, you have to get a digital dvd/vcr receiver. If you have more question please contact me.

Don't know how to set channels w/new cable box.

Use channel 3 or 4 or hook up the RCA jacks. If you use 3 or 4 leave it on that channel and use the cable box to change channel. Use RCA jacks (best) turn the channel on the recorder to line in ether LINE1 or LINE2 with one you plug it up to and leave it on that channel.

How can I get Freeview Channels?

I have a Bush 6690D and I can confirm that it does have a built-in digital decoder for terrestrial signals (Freeview).

Have you checked whether ***********'s TV is set to digital mode ? The "Mode" button on the remote cycles between analog, digital and AV inputs.

Connect ILO DVDR05 to a digital set top box tuner

Just run your outputs from your cable to the ILO inputs, then your ilo ouputs to the tv inputs. Use Cable remote to control channels, use ILO source button on remote to access the correct input setting on ILO. AND YES< you have to do this EVERY TIME you turn the ILO on to watch tv.. I have mine hooked up this way to record from my convertor box and My husband hates it.(when he just wants to watch tv.)
