PS3 boots partially and then gives error message 8002F1B3

My son said he was trying to load the game "fallout 3" which wouldn't
load. After that, the PS3 now boots partially and then gives the error message 8002F1B3.

Does this PS3 need to be sent in for repair ?

    when i tried to update my ps3 , after around 67% it says " an error occurred during the update operation. Contact technical support for assistance. (8002F1B3) " , i call tech support and they wanted me to send it in, last time a friend did that , they messed up his ps3 and blamed him for .. i want to try to fix it without sending it in.

Fallout.3 will not load completely
the disk more than likely has been damaged in an area were the laser needs to read to load up the game.

try disc repair tools
buy a new game (or used)
maybe download the game to your hard drive?

Ps3 game fallout 3 won't load but other games do, which makes me think that the ps3 is ok. Fallout 3 used to load but now it won't. Any suggestions the game is new from christmas.
You should check the disc for scratches and spots, then clean it. If it still doesn't load there might be something wrong with the disc that you cannot see. Check these and I hope it helps

Try going to your memory on your xbox highlight the hard drive and Press Y on the hard drive symbol and then press the following: X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. then select yes this will clear any game updates they will have to be re-updated
