Question about Acer X193W LCD Monitor

Acer's x193w killing my eyes..please help

Last week I purchsed a new x193w Acer wide monitor and I have 2 major problems: First, the recommended resolution is 1440x900 and this means very small fonts. I tries everything- changed the resolution, the DPI, the windows font size in the display properties, checked the cleartype box, nothing works. the only thing that works is unchecking the box "ignore font size" in the browser in the internet options, but it makes a mess in the websites, distorting the webs looks. the second problem is with the colors- red on is too strong. Can someone please help? I feel like i spent money for nothing.

Thank you very much for the answer.
Unfortunately I've already tried what you offered, but changing the DPI doesn't affect the fonts size on the internet, unless i uncheck the "ignore font size", and then it looks like a big mess with many font sizes in one page.
Regarding the red adjustment with the screen bottons, this does'nt help either, because reducing the red, affects all colors and brightness of the display.
I'm runnig XP. Can you think of anything else that might work? many thanks again :)

First off, LCD monitors have what is called a 'native resolution' and that is why it is recommended to be at 1440 x 900. That is the resolution they work best at. My first suggestion is to try to move the monitor closer to you. If that is not possible, try right-clicking on your desktop, click on the Properties tab (That is where you change the resolution. I am doing this for a Windows XP machine - if you are running Vista please let me know and I will try to walk you through it there). Click on the "Advanced" button and in the "General" tab, there should be a "DPI Setting" drop down box. There is usually 96 DPI and 120 DPI. Try 120 DPI and see if that helps.

Second, try using your monitor's menu settings to help the color settings. On your monitor there is a "Menu" button of some sort. Press that and select "Acer eColor Management" and try "Text Mode" to see if that is easier on your eyes. You can also manually adjust the screen and lower the strength of the red color by picking "User" instead of "Acer eColor Management" and selecting the icon that looks like a pyramid of 3 dots. Try adjusting the Red slider and see if that helps.

    Sorry for the late reply!

Both firefox and IE have the ability to change the font size - you can try that for your web browsing. In IE it's under View -> Text Size. In Firefox it's under View -> Zoom.

As for the red color, I'm not sure what to tell you. Have you tried a different monitor to see if the red color persists? Do other monitors give you similar trouble with similar colors, or just this one? Sorry I can't help 100% but I'll try to do some checking up on it. :)

What is the recomended resolution display setting for my Acer X193w monitor

Hi there,

A computer monitor is made of pixels (short for "picture element").

Monitor resolution is measured in pixels, width by height. 640 x 480 resolution means that the screen is 640 pixels wide by 480 tall, an aspect ratio of 4:3. With the exception of one resolution combination (1280 x 1024 uses a ratio of 5:4), all aspect ratios are the same.

Hope this initial information helps. Let me hear from you again for any clarifications.

Check your video card drivers are installed correctly.
If unsure, the reinstall them again, it won't hurt the system and there are probably new drivers out for it anyway.
