When actuated, the lift motor can be heard running for a brief time, but does not lift the door. Suggestions? Could it be not engaging? There is a click, then the motor can be heard, but nothing else happens. The door CAN be opened manually.

Check the gate suports.. its very common for them to rust at the ends and cause them to bind that will not allow the gate to lift on its own. a click or pop may be heard when the gate is opened or closed.. also if the supports are working right the gate actually moves away from the body when the latch is released. if its stays against the body then try the supports for the gate

Door Lock System Components
The power door lock system consists of the following components:
• Driver Door Module (DDM)
• Passenger Door Module (PDM)
• Liftgate Module (LGM)
• Door lock relay
• Door unlock relay
• Body Control Module (BCM)
• Reversible door lock actuators in each of the doors
• LR/RR LOCKS 10A fuse (relay supply voltage)
• Door lock switches in driver and passenger doors (switches are integral components to the DDM and PDM)
Power Door Lock Operation
The power door lock switches are integral components of the DDM and PDM. The switches are two position normally open rocker switches. When placed in either the lock or unlock positions, the switches provide a direct input to the DDM or PDM. The DDM or PDM monitors these inputs and sends a Class 2 message indicating a change in the switch's respective position. Modules which activate the power door lock motors receive the Class 2 message and activate the motor in the appropriate direction to lock or unlock the vehicle's doors and liftgate. The modules which activate the power lock motors are:
• DDM (driver door lock actuator).
• PDM (passenger front door lock actuator).
• BCM (both rear door lock actuators).
• LGM (liftgate door lock actuator).
Could be a lot of thing's causing it not to work . The way we would diagnose is to hook up a scan tool an look for a DTC - diagnostic trouble code in the lift gate control module first ,no codes ,look at a wiring diagram an test voltages at the lock actuator ,switch etc... Also look on scan tool data to see if the lock/unlock command is getting to the lift gate module .
None < LGM - liftgate control module inside the lift gate does .
Rear Wiper/Washer System Components
The rear wiper/washer system consists of the following components:
• Rear window wiper motor
• Rear washer pump
• Rear wash relay
• Rear wiper/washer switch
• RR WIPER Circuit Breaker 15A / ENDGLASS REG Circuit Breaker 30A
• WASH 20A fuse
• Body control module (BCM)
• Liftgate control module (LGM) / End gate module (EGM)
Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop. You have no idea of the complexity of these system's . Communication network between modules etc..... Could have DTC'S diagnostic trouble code's stored in the liftgate control module . An auto parts stores can not read these codes .

The DDM, PDM and LGM are directly connected to the respective door lock actuator through the door lock motor lock and unlock circuits. Once a door lock or unlock request has been received, the module will supply battery voltage to one side of the actuator and ground the other causing the doors to lock or unlock.
One fuse powers all door lock actuators . The other door locks work ? if so it's not a fues problem .
The following locking functions are included on the vehicle:
• All the doors unlock -- All the doors will unlock, including the endgate/liftgate, when any power door unlock switch is detected. The passenger doors lock directly by pressing the lock switches. The driver door unlocks by the BCM using a driver door unlock relay.
• All the doors lock -- All the doors will lock, including the endgate/liftgate, when any power door lock switch is activated. All the lock actuators will activate directly from the power door lock switch (external to the BCM).
• The end/lift gate lock switch -- All the doors will lock or unlock from the end/lift gate lock switch
Not an expert but you seem to have a problem with the actuator units on the rear doors I hear this is a common problem with VW Polo some times it is the actuator not lifting the lock far enough or it is a total failure of the rear actuators this can be fixed if it is an adjustment on the lifter but it involves stripping the door to adjust the lifters or to replace the units first you need to find out if they are doing anything and if you are getting power to the actuators most times it is a job you can do yourself or it is a trip to an auto electrician.
could be a wiring short, but if you hear the lock motor moving i believe the lock actuator has broken free. the rivets break free at times and i've used screws and washers the reattach the actuator in place without having to pull apart the door. try to see if you hear 1 doorlock at a time. if when you press the button, the motor sounds and theres movement thats your problem. if you press and theres no motor then you either have no power to the motor or its bad. current tester to the switch will tell you either way.
Hello! One of the Blend Door Actuators is defective...There are three different Actuators...See picture #1...I would suggest that The Mode Door Actuator is defective...It is DORMAN Part # 604115...Cost = around $50..It is on the lower left side of the pictured HVAC unit....The part is shown in picture #2....After replacing The actuator...Pull the heater fuse...Start the engine...Run for 45 seconds...Turn off key...Replace fuse...This allows the computer to learn the new part...Guru...saailer
Working from the passenger's footwell, disconnect the vacuum hose.
Remove the screws and the floor console register duct vacuum control motor.
CAUTION Do not attempt to bend any part of the floor console register duct door lever.
Rotate and remove the vacuum control motor from the floor console register duct door.
To Install:
Rotate and install the vacuum control motor on the floor console register duct door.
Install and tighten the mounting screws.
Connect the vacuum hose to the floor console register duct vacuum control motor.

The lift gate locking mechanism can be accessed by removing the interir trim pannel on the gate ... and locating the locking actuator and replacing it...
The same can be done for the power window motor ... remove the interior trim panel and replace the power window motor...

Removal
NOTE: The rear door window glass must be completely raised. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01 .
Remove the rear door trim panel. For additional information, refer to Section 501-05 .
Trim Panel —Rear Door, Expedition
Removal
Remove the power window switchplate (14524).
Disconnect the electrical connector.
Remove the rear door handle trim cover.
Remove the rear inside door handle.
Remove the door handle bolt.
Remove the rear door trim panel screws at bottom of panel.
CAUTION: To avoid damage to the rear door trim panel, do not pull directly outward. Lift upward and then outward to remove the rear door trim panel (27406).
Remove the rear door watershield.
Disconnect the power door lock actuator electrical connector.
Drill out the power door lock actuator rivet.
Remove and discard the screws.
Remove the power door lock actuator.
Disconnect the power door lock actuator rod.
Installation
NOTE: Use new screws when installing the rear door latch. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

The liftgate will lock any time the vehicle is shifted out of park on vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission and at vehicle speeds exceeding 5 kph with manual transmission. This happens in conjunction with auto door locks if enabled or independently of auto door locks if the feature is disabled. This ensures that the liftgate is locked anytime the vehicle is shifted out of park or when the vehicle is in motion.
The liftgate lock relay supply and coil sides receive a constant voltage through the battery voltage supply circuit and the ECC fuse. The normally closed contact is connected to ground and the control side is connected to the body control module (BCM). A lock function will occur when a door lock switch activation, keyless entry lock transmission, auto door lock function or a liftgate lock function has been received by the BCM. The BCM will then ground the control side of the liftgate lock relay. This energizes the relay and allows voltage to be applied to the liftgate lock actuator lock control circuit. Since the other side of the liftgate lock actuator is connected to the normally closed contacts of the door unlock relay to ground, the liftgate will lock. When an unlock function occurs the BCM will ground the control side of the unlock relay and the rear doors and liftgate will unlock.
The BCM also runs diagnostics on the liftgate lock relay control circuit and will set DTC B3825 as current and also send a Class 2 message to the DIC. The DIC will display REPLACE LIFTGATE FUSE to inform the driver that a fault has been detected in the liftgate lock circuit and that the liftgate is not locked. Faults that will set the DTC and cause the DIC to display the message could be any of the following

With a test lamp connected to a good ground, probe the door lock actuator lock circuit at the door lock actuator harness connector.
Activate a door lock switch to lock position.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
YES - Go to Step 5

With a test lamp connected to a good ground, probe the door lock actuator unlock circuit at the door lock actuator harness connector.
