CD Player only works for a few seconds

Few troubleshooting steps you can try:

First try a hard reset by unpluging all the cords from the back for 30min and then plug it back in.IF this doesn't help then do the following:

Load a disc and listen.Does the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable. You can also restoe the settings to factory defaults by inserting a toothpick or a small paper click in thehole in the front..

Totally silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a better word.
This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.

You could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust accumulating, but its still worth the try.

If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.

It may also be worth your while to check on the small shafting that guides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grome, dust and solidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the laser eye then fails to read the next track.

If the problem does not get solved then you have to get it repaired.

CD Player does not turn

how long have you been using this player and when did this begin?

Remove the disc and try another. If the player refuses to eject the disc, remove it from the wall and fix it back and fix it back again. Then turn the player on.

If the player still gets stuck on "loading" mode for other disc, then it means the laser is weak.

The lens is weak such that it cannot load data on discs. Its spinning, trying to load, but can't because of the weak laser.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all discs again.

CD drive says no disc no matter what cd is put in. All discs are known to be good

I have a sony with the same problem. It's a stuck laser tracking motor and/or carriage assembly. Remote possibilty that the laser itself is bad but that doesn't happen often. (worm gear also)

Dura brand Mp3 Boombox

If there is sound in radio mode, but no audio in CD mode (for any CD/MP3 disc of course) , there is a lens problem. Try to clean the lens with cleaning disk. If it wont help you need lense replacement.
Good luck

Before you go replacing your stereo, try cleaning your laser lens with rubbing alcohol and a qtip. let it dry for a few mins and try a music disc again.

Unfortanatly, this is why Emerson only warranties these for 90 days, but I have heard and recommend that you contact Emerson and tell them you did not think that their product would break down after a mear 90 days and a lot of times, they will send you a new one, if you bug them enough. There should be a contact number in the owners manual. If you do not have the owners manual, go to: There is a contact link there. By the way, the problem you are having is a bad spindle motor or the laser optics are bad. Have you tried to clean the small laser lens off yet with a cotton swap and some good 90% or better alcohol? Good Luck

CD player not working

NO NO NO NO NO NO dont be sticking a screw driver where you dont know where its going!!!! Theres no belt under the turntable as its a direct drive motor. It the platter dosent turn then that means that the laser is not focusing on the disc. This could a combination of five differant things. First is a simple one as the lens may need cleaning. Try first by using a good lens cleaning disc. Second make sure the slider that the lens is attached to is all the way back to the platter as sometimes there is a small belt that drives the slider assy via a worm gear and that belt goes bad alot as the worm gear i've seen get gunked up with air and dirt. Third is the platter its self . It may have slipped down to close to the lens and it wont focus. Forth could be the motor drive curcuit is defective . Coulkd be a bad motor control ic or the b+ going to the curcuit. and finally but not least could be a bad laser assy. If this is bad you might as well buy a new unit unless you can install one your self but be warned if you do you will need to alighn the new PU assy for tracking and focus gains as well as rf azmuth and laser power. Good luck I hope this put a little lite on the subject for ya.
