Question about Dell Precision Workstation 490 - MT - 32bit Dual Core Intel Xeon Processor 5120 1.... PC Desktop

Which graphics card should I get to run a panasonic 50' plasma?

We want to maybe use our panasonic 50" plasma tv as our computer monitor with our pc...but with the ATI fireGL graphics card, we can only get 800x600, which looks, well, HUGE. I realize plasma monitors have larger pixels, and I"m not sure if this is going to work...but I'm wondering if I got a 512 mb graphics card, if we can get this looking CLOSE to the size on our normal computer lcd might be GREAT, I don't mind if the text is a LITTLE bigger...

I'm hoping to get a MUCH bigger 'dimension' than 1440x900...but this unit has giant pixels, and I don't know if its ever going to look like my viewsonic lcd...hopefully it will be useable as a computer monitor,I guess once I pop a 256 or 512 mb video card in there, I'll find out. I'm guessing that a 256 might be fine, but I'm not sure. do you think a 512 will give me large dimension (that actually WORK) or do you think the 256 is enough..the maximum resolution listed for this plasma monitor is actually NOT that big...probably due to the giant sized pixels...

    we have PANASONIC TH-50px80u
    50" plasma hdtv
we're trying to use for the daw

we might go back to our 3 19" lcd flat panels
which will give me more square footage here....

actually, I'm REALLY really hoping to get more than 1440x900 on this plasma tv here, because if that's all I can get on a 50" plasma display...
its WAY better to have 3 lcd monitors instead...and the plasma can go in the movie room somewhere

looking for alot of screen real estate definitely
not sure if the plasma is an UPGRADE in that regard

we thought the plasma 50" would give us more than 2 lcd 19" or something,
because its pretty huge at 50" there
but now I'm thinking about using 3 19-22 inch LCD panels
    instead of the plasma 50"

I might switch back to 3 lcd monitors

    instead of the plasma
IF it will give me MORE real estate

we can try the 256 mb and see how that looks I guess
since my friend has one I can use
but I"m wondering how to measure this

A better video card will allow more dimensions like 1440x900 or something bigger, which will make it look better, but it wont make the size of the screen any smaller.

256 is enough(thats what i have, its good). I have a 40inch lcd tv and i get 1440x900 because of the pixels. It will look good from far away, but once you go close up you can sort of see the pixels. The monitor will always look better because its smaller.

You'll see what i mean once you borrow the video card from your friend. It will give you more space then your old video card, but it is going to be around the same as a 19" widescreen, it might look big, but then again, the windows are going to be big. Just wait until you get it, and please reply back, id like to hear how it looks. :)

How do I get my LCD monitor to display my computer correctly

This happens when you're trying to run the laptop screen and the TV at the same time. It's caused because the laptop screen and the TV are different resolutions. Very few laptops can run two different screen resolutions at the same time.

The TC-L32X1 supports a fixed range of resolutions. These are listed on page 24 of the user manual The resolutions are [4:3] 640x480 and 1024x768, and [16:9] 800x480, 1280x768, 1366x768. I would recommend either 1366 x 768 or 1280x768.

What you do next is set the laptop so that it runs the TV only. It's slightly different between brands, but they all use a combination of the "Fn" key and maybe F4, or F5 or F8 or one of the function keys that has the monitor symbol. Press the Fn and the appropriate function key at the same time. The displays will cycle: laptop only -> laptop + TV -> TV only -> laptop only.

Once just the TV is getting a picture, you can use the laptop's graphics tab to change the resolution if the laptop hasn't already done this for you. This does vary depending on the operating system and the video card software. Try right clicking on the background image on the desktop and see if there's a short cut to the Graphics Properties.

Hope this helps

I am seeing Horizontal bands scrolling up the screen. What do I adjust to prevent this? Is there a horizontal synch control?

Most likely your monitor or your graphics card is going out. Try shutting down your computer and taking out the graphics card get a can of compressed air and blow it off. If this does not work most likely your graphics card needs to be replaced. In the future shut down your monitor when you go to bed.

Pc connect to plasma tv pioneer pdp hd5070

Depending on your graphics card you may want to try a digital lead hdmi/dvi.

Also remember you will have to change settings for your graphics card.

If it will do dual view or clone desktop then select it but set your resolution to 800x600 just to start.
If you go too high the tv or computer may not display or say out of range

vga to tc vga has been known to be a bit of a mixed bag in terms of results but for the most part they are good esp if you use a good quality cable and not one of the many cheap ones that are about..

Connecting Creative Gigaworks S750 computer speakers to panasonic plasma tv

This depends on the audio system setup designed on your television.

Most speakers can have adapters bought for them which will allow you to connect your speakers to a television. But not every TV will support the 7 speaker configuration with PC Speakers.

The good news is the adapters are fairly cheap at Radio Shack and should not set you back more then 10 bucks. Maybe even cheaper.
